BOSTON (AP) -- Rick Pitino didn't quit after his team's latest
embarrassing defeat. Instead, he apologized -- over and over.
"I am sorry to all our fans and all the people who cover the
team," Pitino said after his team lost its fourth straight game,
100-88 to the Golden State Warriors. "We weren't totally consumed
with winning tonight and I apologize. We'll move on."

Antawn Jamison had 25 points and 14 rebounds and Larry Hughes
added 18 points to lead the Warriors to their third win in their
last four road games.
"Tonight I'm extremely disappointed," Pitino continued. "My
stomach right now is as bad as I've ever been and I've had some 105
degree temperatures.
Golden State is 5-3 in its last eight games and improved to 4-11
on the road. The Celtics were booed off the court after allowing
the Warriors to score the final 10 points.
"The loss five games ago made me sick to my stomach and this
one also made me sick to my stomach," said Celtics forward Antoine
Walker. "We lost as a team. We lost and that's all I know. They
had more points than us."
Bob Sura gave the Warriors a 87-82 lead with 6:53 remaining on
an acrobatic layup under the basket. But Walker hit from inside and
Paul Pierce followed with a pair of free throws, cutting the
deficit to 87-86.
Marc Jackson took it strong to the basket and Jamison followed
with a pair of free throws to give the Warriors a 94-88 advantage,
and Mookie Blaylock gave the Warriors an eight-point lead on a
jumper with 1:52 left.
"Our record doesn't describe what type of team this is,"
Jamison said. "We are finding ways to win now instead of to
lose."
Pierce led the Celtics with 36 points and eight rebounds and
Kenny Anderson added 17 points and nine assists.
"I guess when you look at guys faces around the locker room, it
looks as low as its been," Pierce said of the Celtics recent
struggles. "Especially a loss like this when you get booed off the
court. Playing on the road is probably one of the best things for
us right now."
Blaylock finished with nine points, nine rebounds and 13
assists. Jackson scored 15 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.
The teams, among the worst in the league in records and points
allowed, exchanged leads throughout much of the second half. There
were 10 lead changes in the third quarter alone.
"They gave us a handful tonight and it was a close game all the
way through," said Golden State coach Dave Cowens. "Any win for
us is big and the first win on a road trip is always nice."
Adrian Griffin's 3-pointer with one second left gave Boston a
52-47 halftime advantage.
Chris Porter led the Warriors with 13 first-half points, but the
rookie forward left the game midway through the third quarter after
spraining his left ankle. He went to a local hospital for X-rays.

Boston reserve point guard Milt Palacio was waived. He
played 12 games and averaged 2.7 points and 1.3 assists. ... Golden
State re-signed forward Bill Curley to a 10-day contract. Curley
was waived on Wednesday and has appeared in 11 games this season,
averaging 1.6 points per contest. ... Celtics center Mark Blount
made his second straight start in place of Tony Battie (sprained
ankle).
