McInnis blows chance to avenge punch

RECAP | BOX SCORE | GAME FLOW

TORONTO (AP) -- Jeff McInnis lost the fight and the game.

McInnis missed a key free throw down the stretch and Toronto rallied to beat the Los Angeles Clippers 104-95 in overtime Friday night. Mark Jackson led the Raptors with a season-high 20 points and 15 assists.

Toronto won without either Vince Carter or Charles Oakley.

Oakley was suspended for three games without pay and fined $15,000 by the NBA for punching McInnis during Friday morning's shootaround.

McInnis, sporting a bruise on his left cheek, played and had a chance to clinch the victory for the Clippers with less than 10 seconds remaining in regulation by making two free throws. After making the first, giving the Clippers a three-point lead, he glared at the Raptors bench, then clanked the second off the rim.

"I've got nothing to say about it," said McInnis of Oakley's punch. "All I want to talk about is the Clippers losing this game."

Alvin Williams followed the miss with a 3-pointer with just 1.2 seconds remaining to tie the game and send it into overtime.

The Raptors held Los Angeles scoreless for the first 3:23 of overtime and began with a 6-0 run as Kevin Willis hit an 18-foot jumper and Mark Jackson made two layups, giving Toronto a 99-93 lead.

After the Clippers' Quentin Richardson sank two free throws, the Raptors held them scoreless.

"We showed our experience in the last three minutes," Jackson said. "We started stopping them."

Toronto coach Lenny Wilkens agreed.

"Our veterans set the tone for us," Wilkens said. "When you have two starters out, the game becomes really important then."

McInnis finished with just eight points on 3-of-13 shooting. He also fouled out in the overtime.

Richardson scored 20 points for the Clippers, who made just 15 of their 34 free throw attempts. Los Angeles is the NBA's worst free-throw shooting team.

"That's not disheartening. If anything that's a bright spot because we play a lot of teams close and we haven't shot from the free line like we're capable of," Richardson said. "When our free throw percentage improves, we'll starting winning some of these games."

Darius Miles, the 18-year-old strong forward drafted out of high school by the Clippers, scored eight points in 10 minutes, but sat out the final five minutes of regulation and didn't play in the overtime.

When Miles was knocked to the floor in the third quarter while jogging to the basket for what should have been an uncontested dunk, Gentry yelled, "This ain't no high school!"
