DALLAS (AP) _ Steve Nash hit two free throws with 2.7 seconds to lift the Dallas Mavericks to a 93-92 victory over the Houston Rockets on Tuesday night in the preseason opener for both teams.

Steve Francis's five-foot bank shot for the game-winner rimmed out as time expired.

A layup by Francis with 6.6 seconds left gave the Rockets a 92-91 lead.

On Dallas' final possession, Nash drove from the top of the key and was fouled by Francis, setting up the game-winning free throws.

Rookie Eduardo Najera had 23 points and nine rebounds for the Mavericks. Najera, a second-round draft pick from Oklahoma, had eight points and five rebounds in the second quarter.

In the fourth, Najera scored three consecutive baskets for Dallas, the third on a dunk with 3:32 to play for an 86-80 lead.

Najera received a standing ovation after fouling out with 2:41 to play and the Mavericks leading 86-82.

Cuttino Mobley had 19 points and Francis added 17 for the Rockets.

Nash had 12 points and nine assists. Michael Finley and Howard Eisley added 11 points each for the Mavericks.
