Hornets send Grizzlies to 10th straight loss

RECAP | BOX SCORE | GAME FLOW

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) -- David Wesley and the Charlotte Hornets finally got a break on the road. Of course, that happens a lot when teams play the woeful Vancouver Grizzlies.

Wesley scored a season-high 28 points as the Hornets handed the Grizzlies their 10th straight loss, 113-94 Friday night.

The Hornets won for only the second time in eight road games.

"We've been playing to our competition. We play up with the good teams, and we play down to the teams that are struggling," Wesley said.

Wesley sensed he was going to have a good game during the pregame shootaround.

"It was one of those things where my body felt good, my knees felt good," he said. "I was getting the ball up the way I need to. It was just a good feel."

Derrick Coleman scored 22 points and Eddie Jones had a career-high 12 assists for Charlotte. Rookie Eddie Robinson added a career-high 16 points for the Hornets, who won by their largest margin on the road since beating Milwaukee by 22 points on April 14, 1998.

Elden Campbell went 7-for-7 from the field and scored 15 points for Charlotte.

"We're a better team than that team," Campbell said. "These are the games we have to concentrate on and make sure we get."

Charlotte took control in the second quarter when it made 11 of 15 shots from the field and opened up a 56-46 halftime lead. The Hornets dominated even though their two big men, Coleman and Campbell, missed long stretches after each picked up his third foul.

The Hornets put the game away in the third quarter with a 7-0 run over a 43-second span that made it 81-63. The spurt featured a 3-pointer by Wesley, an alley-oop play from Wesley to Jones, and a fast-break layup by Robinson.

Michael Dickerson broke out of a scoring slump with a season-high 29 points for Vancouver, who are 0-8 all-time against the Hornets.

The Grizzlies committed 22 turnovers and allowed the Hornets to shoot 55 percent from the field.

"In the second half, every jump shot they took was an open look," said Grizzlies coach Brian Hill. "It's my fault. I should've pulled my starting group much earlier in the third quarter than I did, and I regret I didn't."

Game notes
The Hornets played their 1,000th game, including preseason and postseason. Their overall record is 460-540. Hornets trainer Terry Kofler is the only person who has attended all 1,000 games since the franchise started in 1988. ... The Grizzlies, who start a three-game swing through Texas on Monday, have lost 29 in a row on the road. ... Hornets swingman Bobby Phills missed his second straight game with a pulled hamstrong, but is expected to be ready for Sunday's game at Seattle.
