Grizzlies drop 29th straight road game

RECAP | BOX SCORE | GAME FLOW

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Kevin Garnett needed to rest his sore foot Saturday night. So, he went out and put the game away in the first three quarters.

Garnett, one day after spraining his left forefoot, scored 20 points in 29 minutes as the Minnesota Timberwolves beat the Vancouver Grizzlies 113-82 to snap a three-game losing streak.

"It's been a crazy day," said Garnett, who was questionable up until game time. "I had an MRI and X-ray on my ankle. I got very little sleep because my ankle was throbbing.

"I told myself I had to fight through it."

Garnett, who missed most of Friday's second half in Denver, showed no signs of being injured. He had three dunks on fast breaks in the first half, including an acrobatic reverse off Malik Sealy's pass.

"I didn't (know) until the last minute," said Garnett of his decision to play.

"My thing was, I'm gonna sprint all night. If it falls off, so be it," Garnett said.

Anthony Peeler added 17 points, Joe Smith had 16 and Wally Szczerbiak 14 as all 12 Timberwolves scored at least two points.

"I was feeling good, and my teammates were finding me," said Peeler, who made 4-of-5 from 3-point range. "Now, we've got to maintain our hot tempo of play."

Othella Harrington scored 18 points for Vancouver, which lost its seventh straight and 29th consecutive on the road. Shareef Abdur-Rahim had just six points, ending his 97-game streak of double-figure scoring.

"It's all about self-pride, and we showed none of that tonight," said Abdur-Rahim, who did not want to talk about the streak.

Grizzlies center Bryant Reeves did not dress for the game because of a sore right knee, the same knee that he had surgery on last season. He is listed as day-to-day.

"The game was a complete embarrassment on both ends of the floor, offensively and defensively," said Vancouver coach Brian Hill, who was ejected with 1:24 left after getting two technical fouls for arguing.

"I can guarantee it will never happen again, no matter what moves I have to make," Hill said.

"I don't want to answer any questions because I am in a state of rage right now," he added. "I don't want to say anything stupid."

Minnesota got out to a 16-8 lead by the middle of the first quarter. The Timberwolves were up 23-12 by the end of the period, led by Peeler's nine points.

Smith scored 10 points in the second quarter as Minnesota extended its lead to 56-30.

Minnesota tied its biggest quarter of the season with 31 points in the third to take an 87-56 lead.
