Bucks hold off Bulls' second-half rally

RECAP | BOX SCORE | GAME FLOW

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Milwaukee coach George Karl sure didn't sound the winning coach.

"I'm concerned and I'm disappointed and I'm angry," Karl said after his Bucks survived a second-half scare from the lowly Chicago Bulls to win 102-95 and snap a two-game losing streak.

Glenn Robinson scored six of his 22 points in the final period as the Bucks held off the 1-10 Bulls, whose only win came Nov. 13 in Boston. Although they lost their fifth in a row, the Bulls came alive in the second half and nearly won the game.

"I think we got too happy when we got an early lead and then they made shots and we missed shots," said Ray Allen, who scored 18 points for the Bucks.

Karl had a different explanation for his team's performance.

"There's a tendency in the NBA to play down to your competition at times," he said. "But after our two performances this weekend (both losses), to put that performance on the basketball court was very disgusting to me."

The Bulls, playing without ailing forward Toni Kukoc, stormed back in the second half to take the lead and were ahead 92-89 after a basket by Chris Anstey with 4:33 left. But Milwaukee outscored the Bulls 16-3 the rest of the way.

"This was a disappointing loss because I thought we got our best play of the season out of the center position," said Chicago Coach Tim Floyd. "The guys should be disappointed because we were in a position to win and couldn't finish it."

After Anstey's basket, Robinson scored and then reserve Dale Ellis, who had a season-high 17 points, made a 3-pointer with 3:22 left to put the Bucks on top for good at 94-92.

Rookie Eldon Brand, who led the Bulls with 16 points, was as upset with the loss as his coach.

"So close, so tough," Brand said. "Up five in the fourth (82-77), I was ready to mark this a 'W.' We just keep improving and learning to play without some key guys."

Ron Artest scored eight points and his consecutive baskets gave the Bulls a 73-70 lead with 2:13 left in the third quarter. Chicago took an 80-75 lead into the final period.

The Bulls stormed back from an early 14-point second-quarter deficit to cut Milwaukee's lead to 47-45 at halftime. They pulled within two points with 3.2 seconds left when Anstey hit one of two free throws.

Game notes
Through the 11 games, the Bucks are the only team to rank in the top five in all three shooting categories. ... The teams combined to miss 23 of 36 shots in a sloppy first quarter. ... Chicago's Hersey Hawkins played in his 522nd straight game, the second-longest streak in NBA history.
