EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) _ Isaiah Rider scored 21 of his 25 points in the second half to help the Atlanta Hawks rally from a 14-point deficit and beat New Jersey 97-89 on Wednesday night, sending the Nets to their fifth straight loss.

Dikembe Mutombo had 16 rebounds and hit three key free throws down the stretch and Alan Henderson added 22 points as the Hawks won on the road for only the fourth time in 21 games.

Atlanta, which was surrendering 101.5 points per game, held the Nets to two field goals and five points in the final 4:43. The Hawks outscored New Jersey 29-15 in the quarter

Keith Van Horn had 28 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Nets, but only two points came in the final quarter when New Jersey made just 7 of 20 shots from the field. Stephon Marbury, who was snubbed for the All Star game, struggled down the stretch missing two free throws that could have tied the game and turning the ball over with his team down three.

The Hawks trailed almost the entire game and were behind by 14 points early in the second half. The deficit was still eight points early in the fourth quarter when Rider scored six straight points in a 13-4 spurt that allowed Atlanta to take an 81-80 lead.

There were three lead changes over the next two minutes, but Anthony Johnson scored alone inside with 4:22 to go to give the Hawks an 85-84 lead. Two free throws by Rider pushed the lead to three but then Rider fouled Marbury on a 3-pointer with 2:59 to go.

Marbury missed the first two free throws and the Hawks held on with Mutombo hitting three free throws to keep New Jersey at bay.

Notes: Even though Gheorghe Muresan is back on the active roster after knee surgery don't expect him to play soon, unless it's an emergency. He sat for sixth straight game. ... The Hawks led 2-0 and then didn't lead under Jackson hit a short jumper with 6:04 to play. ... Jamie Feick came off the bench to get 16 rebounds for New Jersey. ... The game was the Nets' first after losing four on a West Coast road trip.
