Jayson Stark asked users for their input on what are the best bands named after baseball players. Here are the best responses: A rock duo from Athens, Ga. goes by the name of "The Mendoza Line."
Daniel M. Maggin
There was a Toronto band about 10 years ago that rejoiced in the name Urban Shocker. The band's career, however, was not quite as strong as that of the famed Yankees hurler (187-117). I don't think they even ever actually got around to recording an album.
In the early 90s, there was a band in Brooklyn, N.Y. named Honus Wagner (with the last name pronounced like the German composer).
Scott Schleifer
Mendoza Line Tim Wahlers
My favorite baseball-related band name is courtesy of the ingenious Hoboken, N.J. sonic rockers, Yo La Tengo -- spanish for the infeilder's cry of, "I got it." Daniel R.
Here's one: the band Throneberry, named after Marvelous Marv himself.
Paul L. Gaba
Sadaharu (named, of course, for Japaneese slugger Sadaharu Oh) J. Breil |
