A couple weeks, Jason Simontacchi and Jason Isringhausen were all the rage when they combined for a win and save in the same game. We wondered if that was the longest win/save name combo ever. That prompted more emails on related subjects. Here are some of the best: I may have found the answer to the fewest letters for the win/save combo: May 27, 1981. MON: Lea W (4-1) Lee SV (4) That's 6 letters. I will send later a list of teams that had 2 pitchers who only had 3 letters in their last names.
Thanks, Trent did indeed write in later and found this -- all the teams with two pitchers with three-letter last names. Two teams had 3 pitchers: 1924 PIT Emil Yde Buckshot May 1926 CIN Jakie May Pea Ridge Day 1928 CIN Jakie May Ken Ash 1929 CIN Jakie May Ken Ash 1930 CIN Jakie May Ken Ash 1937 CHW Thornton Lee Bill Cox 1938 CHW Thornton Lee Bill Cox Bob Uhl 1944 PIT Johnny Gee Preacher Roe 1945 NYG Johnny Gee Roy Lee 1960 MIL Joey Jay Terry Fox 1963 LAA Don Lee Mike Lee 1964 LAA Bob Lee Don Lee 1965 CAL Don Lee Bob Lee Rudy May 1965 HOU Don Lee Jim Ray 1966 CHC Don Lee Rich Nye 1966 HOU Don Lee Jim Ray 1970 CAL Terry Cox Rudy May 1979 MON Bill Lee Rudy May 1980 MON Charlie Lea Bill Lee 1981 MON Charlie Lea Bill Lee 1982 MON Bill Lee Charlie Lea 1987 MON Vance Law Charlie Lea 1997 BAL Jimmy Key Esteban Yan
Scrabble madness This is in response to your Scrabble scores by player name. Javier Vazquez is indeed the highest score ever with 53, but Al Tate of the 1946 Pittsburg Pirates ties Ed Ott with the lowest score of 6. Here are some tables (via the magic of computer programming):
HIGHEST SCORE EVER, TOTAL NAME
LOWEST SCORE EVER, TOTAL NAME Also, Velazquez and Czajkowski make up the high scoring last name with 39 points, with (Ken) Szotkiewicz tailing along at 38. Arquimedez is the highest scoring first name with 31, followed by Buzzy (Wares) with 28. And here is even more data for you!
MOST COMMON SCORES I would take this list with a grain of salt, however, because I did not go and verify that the 15,000+ names were all valid. --Robert Glass
I would just like to point out that Vazquez would in fact not get the highest score in Scrabble. This is due to the fact that there is only 1 "Z" tile per game board. Therefore, the only way to spell Vazquez in Scrabble is to use a blank tile. While I don't have the resources to find out who is the highest scorer, I'm sure someone else's name will take advantage of that -10. --Eric Farbman I'm sure you have received a lot of responses about the longest and shortest baseball Scrabble names (I came up with the list below), but I came across another interesting discovery: The longest name consisting of all one-point tiles is Rennie Stennett. Guess he has another claim to fame besides that 7-for-7 game he had! -- Josh in NH
