Rockies fans give midseason report
We told you what we thought of the Rockies' first-half performance, now you've told us. Here is what you had to say about our reports and what the Rockies have to do in the second half:

I'm tired of you guys not giving the Rockies any credit. Sure they're on a seven-game losing streak but what team doesn't go on a bad losing streak in the course of a season? Whenever you guys at ESPN give any credit it's because we play at Coors Field. You guys look at Todd Helton's batting average or this great year he is having and you it's just Coors Field. All the Rockies fans are getting sick of ESPN not giving us any credit.

If the Rockies ever start hitting on the road, look out, they'll be NL West champs.

Russ Henson

Jeffrey Hammonds is the best player is baseball nobody knows about. He has 65 RBI in only 64 games. He is batting .357 and might end up with 35 home runs since he missed so many games the first half of the year. Hammonds is only at the beginning of this dynamite year and hopefully these numbers will continue through his career.

I think the only thing the Rockies need to win the division is Larry Walker. If he starts producing, this team will win the division easily. Astacio has been pitching well, and Arrojo is healthy now. Bohanon is 4-6 but he has been pitching well as of late. Their bullpen is solid too with Jose Jiminez, Rick Croshere, Gabe White and Julian Tavarez.

Rob Friedberg
Wayne, N.J.

Saying Larry Walker is an underachiever is like saying Greg Maddux is washed up. It's really hard to hit for power when you can't extend your right arm (Walker's lead arm). His elbow's so bad that he's playing left field not his natural right field posistion.

Sam Kaneta
Thornton, Colo.

If Walker doesn't get healthy and Lansing continues to struggle, I expect the Rocks to slowly fall back out of contention. The need to trade Lansing and bring up Brent Butler from Triple-A. Lansing's range is horrendous and with a faltering bat, he isn't worth $6 million a year. Another quality Bob Gebhart trade and signing decision.

Greg Hoppes
Lafayette, Colo.

These guys have got the heart and attitude to contend in this division. But do they have the stamina and can they learn to hit on the road? A majority of the second half games at home should give them a fighting chance. But if the starting pitching rotation doesn't get more consistent, the Rockies may just have enough road games to keep them home for good in October.

Copper Mountain, Colo.

I don't know that the Rockies really need anything added to their rotation or lineup. They just need to find a way to win on the road. Unless they can start winning a few more on the road, they will drop out of the race quickly.

The toughest part of the Rockies' schedule is behind them. They just played a stretch of 17 of 21 on the road. To improve in the standings, the Rockies will need better starting pitching, both at home and on the road. The Rockies are a fun baseball team to watch. The players play hard and seem to enjoy playing with each other. They have shown an ability to manufacture runs and play better defense. The Rockies are an improving club with more work to do.

Mark Rapp
Greeley, Colo.

The Rockies recent troubles can be blamed on mental toughness. Players who have proven to be able to hit on the road are struggling. I also believe that the rockies need to give up Larry Walker for some prospects. With his injuries slowing him down it may be a good idea to let go of him before there is no more value in his talent. Walker is a great player but his numbers are down and I don't think his elbow is getting better by the way his numbers are falling off.

Donnie Hedglin
Las Vegas

I think that if they can play .500 ball on the road then the division is their's to win. If they don't then it will be a wasted effort from the solid pitching staff.
