| We told you what we thought of the Astros' first-half performance, now you've told us. Here is what you had to say about our reports and what the Astros have to do in the second half:
Lance Berkman's numbers have been one of the few pleasant surprises during a season full of disappointments.

The trading of Carl Everett in the off season to Boston for "financial reasons" has to rank as the one of the worst trades in recent memory. Everett was easily the Astros best clutch player down the stretch in 1999. He was just coming into his own, and the numbers he has put up in Boston this year are only an indication of what he can do. This trade will haunt the Astros for many years to come. Glenn New Orleans
What about Richard Hidalgo? Nobody is talking about him and who can blame them with such a dissapointing first half. However, Hidalgo seems to be coming into his own as a major league hitter and has been one the lone highlights of the Astros.

Well, if the Astros did trade Jeff Bagwell, Moies Alou, or Jose Lima who would the Astros get? The Astros do need to make some changes but to trade the guys that are producing is that the right way to go? Lima is not playing well, but the others are. What about trading away prospects to get some players that can produce? Chris Walker Kingwood, Tx.
It's easy for all the media to talk bad about the Astros, but no one feels worse than the players. I have been to Enron Field 14 times this season and I have seen them win only three times. This is a team that has won the division three years in a row. They are not the laughing stock of the league. I can remember beating up on everyone in the NL central for the past 3 seasons. You're right, the Astros are way too good to be this bad. I don't really think there is a physical playing problem anymore. However, the problem is a mental one. The All-Star break is going to be a blessing for us because everyone is going to clear their heads and play like the three-time NL Central champions. Lima and Wagner, if they played like they were supposed to, then we would have been well up in second still. The only problem that I have no solution for is our relievers. Who knows what happened?

The Astros are the the most talented team I've ever seen do this bad. It all goes back to pitching and their pitching stinks. Brandon Franck Story City, Iowa The Astros do have enough talent to make a run for the wild card. I won't give up hope yet. Trading Alou and Lima sounds like a good idea to me, but trading the best first baseman in the game is not a good idea. Bagwell must stay. MaxCleveland, Ohio
In the article Dennis Fowler states, "Good pitching wins games. Isn't that how the age-old cliche goes? That's why Houston is in the cellar of the NL Central. It's just that simple." He hit the nail on the head! When Drayton MacLaine gives up Kile, the Big Unit, and Hampton and has nothing to show for three of the top pitchers in the league; Houston is going to have a problem. The real problem is this: The owner is cutting the payroll during the year when we were supposed to be adding free agents! David Truitt Katy, Texas How can you be so short-sighted. The Astros traded their best pitcher, two very solid outfielders, their starting shortstop left in the offseason, Ken Caminiti got a year older, and they have no catchers to speak of. Surprised that the 'Stros have fallen? Heck I could have predicted it. Too talented to be this bad?
