NEW YORK -- The 10 league championship series games on Fox averaged a 6.5 rating and 12 share, down 7 percent from last year's 7.0 rating and 13 share.

The combined postseason coverage on Fox, including the division series, has averaged a 6.3 rating and 11 share, up 19 percent from 5.3/10 average last year, Nielsen Media Research said Tuesday.

San Francisco's 2-1 victory over St. Louis, which won the NL series in five games Monday night, got a 6.9/11, down 10 percent from last year's comparable game, the New York Yankees' AL pennant-winning 12-3 rout of Seattle. It had a higher rating than "ABC's Monday Night Football'' in St. Louis (31.0 vs. 6.2), San Francisco (27.1 vs. 14.7), New York (8.4 vs. 5.1), Los Angeles (12.6 vs. 10.8), Hartford (6.4 vs. 6.3), Memphis (11.7 vs. 9.5) and Greensboro, N.C. (9.2 vs. 5.7).

St. Louis' 5-4 win over San Francisco in Game 3 on Saturday afternoon got a 4.6/11, down 19 percent from Seattle's 14-3 rout of the Yankees in the comparable time slot last year, which got a 5.7/14. Fox attributed the drop to increased competition from college football on other networks.

Anaheim's 7-1 win in Game 4 Saturday night got a 5.6/11, up 4 percent from the 5.4/10 for Arizona's 11-4 win in the comparable slot in 2001.

The Angels' AL pennant-winning 13-5 win Sunday got a 6.1/12. Last year, Fox aired NFL coverage in that time slot.

San Francisco's 4-3 win Sunday night received a 6.8/11, down 45 percent from the 12.3/19 for split coverage last year of the Yankees' 3-1 win and Arizona's pennant-clinching 3-2 victory over Atlanta.
