Indians' Sabathia hyperextended left elbow

Associated Press

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- C.C. Sabathia hyperextended his left elbow Saturday and left the Cleveland Indians' 3-1 loss to the Kansas City Royals.

The 22-year-old left-hander got hurt on a pitch that Michael Tucker flied out on for the second out of the seventh inning.

"I just hyperextended it on that one pitch,'' Sabathia said. "I tried to reach back and get a little extra on that last pitch and probably reached back too far and got too much.''

Indians manager Eric Wedge said Sabathia will return Sunday to Cleveland to have his arm examined.

Sabathia, 30-17 in 68 major league starts, said he probably wouldn't miss a start.

"We're just looking at it as day to day,'' Wedge said. "It's too early to tell. We'll know more when he gets checked out.''
