Matsui likely to play left field for Yankees

NEW YORK -- Hideki Matsui is to be introduced Tuesday by the New York Yankees when he finalizes his $21 million, three-year contract.

Matsui arrived in New York from Japan last Thursday and had his physical the following day. Yankees teammate Roger Clemens is expected to attend the news conference at a Manhattan hotel.

Matsui, 28, is likely to be a left fielder for the Yankees. A three-time MVP in Japan's Central League for the Yomiuri Giants, He had a .304 career average in Japan with 332 homers and 889 RBI in 1,268 games.

He was second in the Central League last season with a .334 average and led the league with 50 homers and 107 RBI.
