Rockies GM: Cedeno's contract triggered collapse

ESPN.com news services

DENVER -- A three-team deal that would have sent Denny Neagle and his $36 million contract to the New York Mets fell through Tuesday.

The deal would have sent Neagle to the Mets for outfielder Jeromy Burnitz and right-handed pitcher Todd Van Poppel.

The Mets would have sent right-handed pitcher Pedro Astacio and outfielder Roger Cedeno to the Texas Rangers.

Colorado Rockies general manager Dan O'Dowd told The Denver Post that the Mets and Rangers couldn't agree on Cedeno's contract.

A dissapointed O'Dowd says he doesn't know if the Rockies will be able to work out a trade for Neagle.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
