Boston's search includes cousin of former GM Duquette

Associated Press

BOSTON -- Jim Duquette, assistant general manager of the New York Mets, met with Boston Red Sox president Larry Lucchino on Thursday to interview for the team's general manager's job.

"Jim Duquette did indeed interview with Larry Lucchino, and he said the interview went very well," Red Sox spokesman Kevin Shea said Thursday. Leland Maddox, Cincinnati's director of player personnel, also interviewed with the Red Sox on Thursday, according to Reds spokesman Rob Butcher. Shea could not immediately confirm if Maddox interviewed.

Duquette is the cousin of former Red Sox general manager Dan Duquette, fired during spring training by the team's new ownership after eight years on the job.

The Red Sox have previously interviewed former Chicago White Sox general manager Ron Schueler and have received permission to interview Philadelphia Phillies scouting director Mike Arbuckle.

New York Yankees vice president Gene Michael and Montreal Expos general manager Omar Minaya have both turned down interview requests form the Red Sox.

The Red Sox have asked the Oakland Athletics permission to talk with GM Billy Beane, but the A's have not responded.

Red Sox interim GM Mike Port is also in the running for the job.
