NEW YORK -- Texas Rangers catcher Ivan Rodriguez was suspended for one game Friday for making an obscene gesture toward an umpire.
Rodriguez will serve the suspension Saturday against Oakland.
On Sept. 16, Rodriguez disputed a called third strike by plate umpire Mark Carlson. After being warned not to argue from the dugout, Rodriguez became enraged, racing from one end of the dugout to the other.
He ran onto the field and confronted Carlson. Manager Jerry Narron, third base coach Steven Smith and first base umpire and crew chief John Hirschbeck interceded to restrain Rodriguez, who was ejected from the game. |
