NEW YORK -- Ozzie Smith and Robin Yount were picked Wednesday to be the honorary captains for next month's All-Star Game. Smith, who will be inducted into the Hall of Fame on July 28, was a 15-time All-Star in his career for the San Diego Padres and St. Louis Cardinals. He will represent the National League in the game July 9 in Milwaukee. Yount, the first Brewer elected to the Hall of Fame, played 20 years in Milwaukee, winning two MVP awards. Yount will represent the American League, even though the Brewers moved to the NL after his retirement. The umpires for the All-Star Game were also announced. Gerry Davis, in his 19th year in the majors, will work behind the plate in his third All-Star game. The other umpires will be Tim Tschida (first base), Chuck Meriwether (second base), Jerry Meals (third base), Marty Foster (left field) and Paul Emmel (right field.) Tschida and Meriwether will work their second All-Star games, while Meals, Foster and Emmel were picked for the first time. The official scorers for the game will be Bill Center, the president of the Baseball Writers Association of America; Brewers official scorer Tim O'Driscoll; and Drew Olson of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.
