Giles' premature baby daughter dies

Associated Press

ATLANTA -- The daughter of Atlanta Braves second baseman Marcus Giles, born prematurely at 26 weeks and weighing only 1 pound, died Wednesday.

Lundyn Mae Giles was delivered June 3 by Caesarean section at Atlanta's Northside Hospital. She had been in the neonatal intensive care section of Northside Hospital.

Braves spokesman Jim Schultz said Giles called during the game to report the death.

Giles, on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained ankle, was scheduled to go on a rehabilitation assignment to the minors earlier this month, but that was delayed so he could remain with his wife, Tracy, and the baby.
