Braves-Giants game not interrupted by quake

Associated Press

SAN FRANCISCO -- An earthquake shook Pacific Bell Park during Monday night's game between the Atlanta Braves and San Francisco Giants, but play was not interrupted.

Glass panes in the front of the press box rattled in the ninth inning with the Braves batting. There was no noticeable reaction from the players or the crowd of 36,331

The game continued and the Braves rallied with two outs to tie it at 6.

On Oct. 17, 1989, about a half-hour before the scheduled start of the Game 3 of the World Series between the Giants and Oakland Athletics, an earthquake rocked Candlestick Park. The stadium was evacuated and the World Series did not resume until Oct. 27.

Seismologists say the quake has a preliminary magnitude of 5.2. It was centered three miles southwest of Gilroy.
