Woman says Puckett shoved, threatened her

Associated Press

MINNEAPOLIS -- A woman who said she had an 18-year affair with Kirby Puckett obtained a court order barring him from having contact with her.

Laura Nygren of suburban St. Louis Park has accused the Hall of Famer who played for the Minnesota Twins of shoving her in his Bloomington condominium and threatening her.

A judge is to decide at a hearing March 29 if the temporary order will be made permanent.

Puckett's lawyer, Beth Bryant, declined comment. Dave St. Peter, Twins senior vice president for business affairs, said he does not comment on such matters.

Puckett, the team's executive vice president for baseball, did not immediately return a phone message. His secretary, Joanie Boeser, said he was not in the office Wednesday.

Puckett's estranged wife, Tonya, has filed for divorce. In January, she filed a police report saying her husband threatened to kill her during a phone conversation. Kirby Puckett has denied making the threat and authorities declined to bring charges.

According to a St. Louis Park police report filed in February, the 41-year-old Nygren gave police a recording of a telephone conversation in which Kirby Puckett told her, "If you sold me out you're in trouble."

Police have not charged Puckett because the threats were not specific enough, Capt. Rod Walker said.
