Offer could be in neighborhood of $38 million

With the Derek Jeter contract now out of the way, the Yankees are closing in on getting Mariano Rivera signed to a four-year deal in the neighborhood of $38 million, ESPN.com's Jayson Stark is reporting.

Rivera is now represented by Fernando Cuza and Randy Hendricks (now that Rivera's old agents, Jim Bronner and Bob Gilhooley have been fired by SFX). Cuza and Hendricks have been negotiating with Yankees president Randy Levine over the last two days. That contract could be agreed upon as soon as this weekend, according to sources familiar with the negotiations.

Rivera had been scheduled for a salary arbitration hearing Thursday, but it was postponed as infighting broke out among his agents.

Rivera, eligible for free agency after next season, won in arbitration in 1999 and lost last year. He had been asking for a raise from $7.25 million to $10.25 million. The Yankees countered at $9 million.
