Major leaguers improve to 3-1-1

Associated Press

OSAKA, Japan -- Omar Vizquel and Barry Bonds singled in runs during the seventh inning Wednesday, helping the major league All-Stars to a 5-1 victory over Japan's All-Stars.

It was the major leaguers' third victory against one loss and one tie in the eight-game series.

Tetsuro Kawajiri of the Hanshin Tigers limited the major leaguers to two infield hits over six innings at the Osaka Dome.

Roberto Alomar hit a two-out double and scored on a single by Vizquel, his Cleveland teammate, to make it 1-0 in the seventh. Then Bonds of San Francisco doubled home a run off Kawajiri.

The major leaguers added three runs in the eighth off Masahide Kobayashi of the Chiba Lotte Marines.

Mike Sweeney of Kansas City doubled home two runs following singles by Tory Glaus of Anaheim and Luis Gonzalez of Arizona. Gonzalez scored on a single by Sandy Alomar of Cleveland.

Japan scored its only run in the seventh on Glaus' error.

Game 6 is Thursday at the Nagoya Dome in central Japan.
