RF Jeff Conine went 0-for-4 and is hitless in 11 at-bats. Tampa Bay: LHP Tony Saunders (broken left arm) will make his second rehab start Monday for Class-A Charleston against Piedmont. He is currently working out of the bullpen. ... Manager Larry Rothschild said minor league OF Josh Hamilton, who is undergoing knee surgery Monday, should be ready to play in the Arizona Fall League. ... When asked how he slept with a 4:15 p.m. start following the Devil Rays' 10-9 loss to Baltimore that ended at 12:33 a.m. Saturday, Rothschild said "fast."

Rangers vs. Blue Jays
Texas: The Rangers are 18-32 on the road and have lost nine of 11. ... Texas has lost nine of their last 10 on the road vs. AL East opponents. ... Rookie Texas starter Doug Davis threw 43 pitches in the first inning. The Blue Jays scored three runs on four hits in the first. Toronto: The Blue Jays have hit 110 home runs at home, two short of the club mark set in 1998. ... David Wells has gone seven or more innings in 15 of his 24 starts this season. ... Wells' 17 wins ties the club record for wins by a left-hander set by himself last season and by Jimmy Key in 1987. ... Billy Koch has seven saves since the All-Star break. ... The Blue Jays have won four straight at home and five of their last six at SkyDome.

Twins vs. Tigers
Minnesota: The Twins are making their first visit to Detroit's cavernous Comerica Park, and manager Tom Kelly's first impressions were good. "I think it's great," Kelly said after Friday's 3-1 win over the Tigers. "I'm not a purist by any stretch of the imagination, but you like to see your pitcher have a chance." Comerica Park certainly doesn't rob the Twins of much power. They entered Saturday with just 82 home runs, far and away the fewest in the majors. ... Tigers manager Phil Garner thinks Twins LHP Eric Milton, who limited the Tigers to four hits in seven innings Friday, is already one of the elite young pitchers in the game. "We've been swinging the bats well, but that kid's a good pitcher," Garner said. "Give him credit. He pitched good against us." ... Milton (11-6) has won three straight after a four-game losing streak. In those wins, he's allowed just three earned runs on 10 hits over 23 innings. Detroit: RHP Hideo Nomo is day-to-day with discomfort in his pitching hand that caused him to be scratched from a scheduled start Friday. X-Rays were negative, but manager Phil Garner said Nomo must really be hurting because he's always had a high threshold of pain. ... IF Gregg Jefferies, out since May 30 with a torn left hamstring, may be out for the season after sustaining a different injury to the same hamstring last week in Texas. "This could be worse than the previous injury," team physician Dr. Terry Lock said. ... RF Juan Gonzalez was 0-for-4 Friday, ending a season-high 12-game hitting streak.

Mariners vs. Yankees
Seattle: The Mariners bullpen allowed six runs in 1 2/3 innings Friday after allowing only 27 earned runs in 86 innings since July 2. ... OF Rickey Henderson, released by the Mets earlier this season, kept up his feud with Mets manager Bobby Valentine in his first trip back to New York. "He overmanaged instead of just letting the guys go out and play," Henderson said of his former manager. "When they released me, I was relieved more than anything else." ... Seattle's starters lead the AL with 49 wins and a 4.37 ERA. New York: Orlando Hernandez will come off the DL Sunday to start against Seattle. Manager Joe Torre dismissed accusations by Hernandez that an unidentified Yankees coach questioned Hernandez's elbow injury. Jorge Posada caught with David Cone pitching instead of Chris Turner, who was behind the plate for Cone's last seven starts.

Kansas City: Mark Quinn, who had a tiebreaking RBI double during a three-run eighth inning, extended his career-high hitting streak to 13 games. ... Johnny Damon on his splendid second half: "It's just a matter of getting the ball on the ground so I can use my speed." Since the All-Star break Damon is hitting .466 with 15 doubles in 16 runs scored in 23 games. ... Manager Tony Muser has been using Damon primarily as DH to rest some sore ribs. "When your leadoff guy gets on base, he makes things happen," Muser said of Damon's 3-for-5 afternoon with three runs scored. "He was really cold when we got to the break. He's had some rib problems and has only been available to DH, but he's been terrific." Boston: Carl Everett's first day back with his Red Sox teammates wasn't without a little controversy. Before the game, the center fielder, who returned from a 10-game suspension for bumping an umpire July 15, was heard screaming with manager Jimy Williams in the manager's office. Athletics vs. White Sox
Oakland: It might have taken a while for pitchers to figure out the young Oakland Athletics, but Chicago manager Jerry Manuel said youth isn't the secret to their hot bats. The A's are second in the AL in runs scored (640), are third in homers (164) and are sixth in slugging percentage (.459). "A lot of it is they are good hitters. They've had a talented system for a long time," Manuel said. ... Mark Mulder threw six innings Wednesday against Toronto. ... After allowing 52 runs in 23 games, Oakland's bullpen has given up just four runs in the last seven games. ... On Aug. 5, 1992, Jose Canseco set an Oakland record with seven consecutive walks. He drew walks in his first two at-bats on Aug. 5, adding to his five walks the previous day. Chicago: Jeff Abbott got a rare start in center field, but Manuel said it's no reflection on Chris Singleton. Singleton went 0-for-3 Friday night and is 18-of-65 (.277) in his last eight games. Abbott went 0-for-4 on Wednesday, but was hitting .700 in his three games before that. "Chris Singleton is our center fielder. But we, at some point, have to get everybody in to get some at-bats," Manuel said. ... The White Sox still don't have a starting pitcher for the second game of their doubleheader against the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday. Jon Garland's regular turn is Tuesday, so he'll start the first game. "We're going to have to make some adjustments, but we probably won't make any decisions until the last minute," Manuel said. "It depends on what we do or who we use." ... Cal Eldred, on the DL since July 17 with nerve irritation in his elbow, played catch for a second day without pain. He'll rest Sunday and then throw long toss before Tuesday's doubleheader. ... Despite a bit of a slump since the All-Star break, Manuel said there's no reason to panic yet or call any team meetings. "There are people that are performing well," Manuel said. "... So I don't want to call attention to the masses at the time. The individuals who are struggling have been talked to or met with."

I'm still getting used to things here." ... John Burkett has been battling Terry Mulholland for a starting spot all season and didn't help himself Saturday.
