MIAMI (Ticker) -- What has been a horrific year for the Houston Astros got worse tonight as second baseman Craig Biggio suffered a potential season-ending injury in tonight's 4-3 victory over the Florida Marlins. Biggio suffered what appears to be a torn ACL and MCL in his left knee while trying to turn a double play in the seventh inning. After taking the throw from third baseman Chris Truby, Biggio's knee buckled as Preston Wilson slid into him. He left the game immediately. The 34-year-old Biggio will remain with the team for the completion of the four-game series in Florida and is scheduled to undergo an MRI in Houston on Friday. "Even with what we've been through, a situation like this doesn't make winning much fun," Houston manager Larry Dierker said. "You always like to win, but this takes away from it. Maybe we can salvage something from this season. Maybe we can pass somebody but none of that really matters. He's the emotional centerpiece of our team." A seven-time All-Star, Biggio is hitting just .268 with eight home runs and 35 RBI in 101 games for Houston (40-66), which has the worst record in the major leagues after winning three straight National League Central Division crowns. "It's been that kind of year for us. It seems like there has been one thing after another," Houston general manager Gerry Hunsicker said. "It has been a year to forget and this just adds to it." Houston signed Biggio to a three-year contract extenstion after he hit .294 with 56 doubles, 16 homers, 73 RBI, 123 runs and 28 stolen bases last season. He has never been on the disabled list in 13 seasons in the majors.
