They are 11-13 in July with three games left. The 1999 Twins' lone winning month was July (15-11).

Devil Rays-Royals
TAMPA BAY: Devil Rays RHP Paul Wilson and OF Jason Tyner joined the team after Friday's trade of RHP Rick White and OF Bubba Trammell to the Mets. "It's kind of overwhelming at first," Tyner said. "You get traded and your whole life changes. I've had veterans tell me it's nothing personal. It means somebody wants you." ... RHP Travis Harper also reported from Triple-A Durham as the player to be named following Friday's trade of right-handers Jim Mecir and Todd Belitz to Oakland.

KANSAS CITY: General manager Allard Baird said he fielded a call about a possible trade of OF Johnny Damon, but didn't expect to make a deal before Monday's trading deadline. "We're trying to sign him to a long-term deal," Baird said. "He wants to stay here. We want him to stay here." ... OF Jermaine Dye was in the lineup as DH after getting a concussion when he crashed into the wall Thursday. He missed last night's game. Strengthening coach Tim Maxey taped an image of a human figure at the point Dye hit the wall. He took it down after the Royals finished batting practice. "It was just something to keep the fellows loose," Maxey said. ... "I'm OK. I'm all right," Dye said before batting practice. ... Manager Tony Muser and coaches Rich Dauer and Frank White held an extended session with 2B Carlos Febles before batting practice on base-stealing techniques. C Brad Ausmus began Saturday night having thrown out 20-of-45 basestealers. His percentage of .435 was tops in the AL and third in the majors.

Seattle pitchers allowed 100 home runs through 102 games this season, lowest in the AL.

Red Sox-Athletics
BOSTON: As a pitcher, Pedro Martinez is clearly in awe of SS Nomar Garciaparra. "I've never seen anyone hit as consistent in any count or with any pitch as he does. When I think about him as a pitcher, I don't see a hole there. When I watch him hit, I see something weird: Everything he hits is straight and solid, even a foul is off the middle of the bat." ... Garciaparra responded: "I just try to make contact. I don't want to break my bat. I just try to hit the ball in the middle." ... The Red Sox optioned RHP Tomo Ohka to Triple-A Pawtucket on Friday. Nathan, who threw 15 pitches each inning, will throw on the side Monday. Pitching coach Dave Righetti said Nathan may need another simulated game before the Giants decide whether he'll need to make a rehab start. Nathan, 5-2 with a 4.86 ERA in 15 games (14 starts), was pleased. "For the most part, it was good," Nathan said. Greene surprised the Cubs with his defensive play. "He gets high marks from all the coaches," manager Don Baylor said. "He has an unorthodox delivery when he throws, but he's on the money." ...
