Cubs acquire RHP Hinchliffe from Angels in five-player deal

CHICAGO (Ticker) -- The Chicago Cubs today acquired righthander Brett Hinchliffe from the Anaheim Angels in a trade involving five minor league players.

The Cubs obtained Hinchliffe and infielder Keith Luuloa for outfielder Chris Hatcher, righthander Mike Heathcote and infielder Brett King.

Hinchliffe, 26, made his major league debut last season, going 0-4 with an 8.80 ERA in 11 appearances for the Mariners, including four starts.

Hinchliffe was in his first year in the Angels' organization after spending his first eight professional seasons in the Mariners' sytem. He made two appearances for Anaheim this year, allowing one run over 1 2/3 innings. He was 2-3 with two saves and 3.80 ERA in 27 games at Class AAA Edmonton of the Pacific Coast League this season.

Luuloa, 25, who had spent his entire career in the Anaheim system and batted .333 (6-for-18) in six games for the Angels this season.

Hatcher and Heathcott, both 31, were non-roster invitees to the Cubs' spring training camp and have spent the year at Class AAA Iowa of the PCL. Hatcher is hitting .278 and Heathcott went 5-3 with two saves and a 5.62 ERA in 38 games.

King, 28, has seen action this season for Iowa and Class AA West Tennessee of the Southern League.
