TORONTO -- Manny Ramirez's agent came away from talks with the Indians on Tuesday less confident that the slugger will remain in Cleveland.

"I can't say we expect an offer, but at the same time we've discussed parameters from our side, and I think the ball rests in their court at this moment," Jeff Moorad said after talking with owner Larry Dolan, GM John Hart and assistant GM Mark Shapiro.

Moorad said he hasn't discussed specifics with the Indians. Dolan has said in the past that they would wait until the off-season to discuss a new contract.

Moorad, in Toronto to visit Blue Jays outfielder Raul Mondesi, said no offer has been made, and he doesn't expect one before the July 31 trading deadline.

"It's hard to ignore the rampant speculation about him being on the verge of being traded," Moorad said. "From that standpoint it's a little tougher today to be totally optimistic (that he'll stay with Cleveland), and yet I would say that I'm hopeful that he stays with the Indians."

Entering Tuesday, Ramirez is hitting .336 with 20 home runs and 64 RBIs despite missing 6½ weeks with a strained left hamstring. Since coming off the DL on July 13, Ramirez is hitting .400 with seven homers and 17 RBI in 11 games.

Last season, the 28 year-old right-fielder became the first player in more than 60 years to top the 160-RBI mark.

If he is traded, Moorad said Ramirez would be reluctant to sign a long-term deal with his new team.

"The only contract that could possibly get done between now and the end of the season is with the Cleveland Indians," he said. "We're not open to negotiating with another team in the short term."

However, Moorad later added that it "would depend on the team." The New York Mets are in the market for an outfielder and Ramirez grew up New York.

The Indians entered the day 11 games behind the Chicago White Sox in the AL Central and 2½ games in back of Oakland in the wild-card race.
