OTTAWA -- Paxton Crawford overshadowed Hideki Irabu's return to Triple-A. Crawford pitched the fourth no-hitter in the International League this season -- and second for Pawtucket -- as the Red Sox beat the Ottawa Lynx 3-0 Tuesday night in the first game of a doubleheader. The right-hander retired the final 10 batters in the seven-inning contest. Crawford (5-2) struck out seven and walked one to snap a personal two-game losing streak. Tomo Ohka threw a perfect game June 1 for Pawtucket against Charlotte. Irabu (0-1), made his first appearance for the Lynx on a rehabilitation assignment from the Montreal Expos. He has been on the disabled list since undergoing arthroscopic surgery to repair torn cartilage in his right knee May 31. Irabu allowed two runs and five hits in 5 2/3 innings and struck out six for Ottawa, which has lost five straight games.
Saberhagen throws well in rehab start Saberhagen, a Cy Young winner with Kansas City in 1985 and 1989, had right shoulder surgery on Nov. 7 after posting a 10-6 record with Boston in 1999. He left his first rehab start in May after one inning, complaining of a sore back. Previously, he hadn't pitched since the fourth game of last year's AL championship series. Saberhagen gave up one hit and struck out five for the Spinners, who beat Auburn 1-0. He threw 28 of his 36 pitches for strikes and afterward said he felt no soreness in his arm or shoulder.
