NEW YORK -- New York Mets right-hander Rick Reed fractured his left wrist Thursday night when Atlanta's Andruw Jones lined a single off him in the third inning.

Reed grounded out in the bottom of the inning, then left the game. He was scheduled to be examined Friday.

He allowed four runs and five hits in three innings, leaving with the Mets trailing 4-2 after New York scored two runs in the bottom of the third.

On April 19, Reed was hit on the left hand by a liner off the bat of Milwaukee's Marquis Grissom. Reed also sprained his right wrist in the game. On May 27, he strained a muscle on his left side pitching against St. Louis.

Last year, he went on the disabled list twice, from April 12-May 3 with a slightly torn left calf muscle and from Aug. 9-Sept. 4 with a strained ligament in the middle finger of his pitching hand.

Reed, 34, had a 4.76 ERA entering the game with a 4-1 record.
