NEW YORK -- Chuck Knoblauch not only is hurting the New York
Yankees with his wild throws, he's hurting their fans, too.

The suddenly scatter-armed second baseman made another wild throw
Saturday, this one hitting a woman sitting behind the first-base
dugout in a game against the Chicago White Sox.
New York newspaper reports Sunday identified the woman as Marie Olbermann, mother of Fox broadcaster Keith Olbermann.
Olbermann initially declined help, then walked with two Emergency Medical
Service workers through the stands to the first-aid station.
She only spent a few minutes being checked before heading back to her seat. After a fifth-inning rain delay, the White Sox won their 10th straight road game -- and sixth overall -- 10-9. Knoblauch was error-free for the rest of the game.
With two outs and none on in the fourth inning, Greg Norton hit
a slow roller. Knoblauch charged in and made an overhand throw -- he
turned away in disgust immediately after the ball left his hand.
The throw sailed over first baseman Tino Martinez and went a few
rows into the seats behind the Yankees' dugout. A fan tried to
catch the ball with his glove but he missed, and it hit the woman.
Norton was credited with an infield single and reached second on
the error. It was Knoblauch's 13th error of the season, most of
them on throws.
Knoblauch's throwing problem became the biggest baseball topic
in New York after he made three wild throws Thursday night against
the White Sox. The 1997 Gold Glove winner was sent home early from
the ballpark by manager Joe Torre, but returned Friday night in a
good mood and received a standing ovation.
Knoblauch did not field any ground balls Friday night, leaving after eight innings.
