Braves agree to terms with RHP Seanez on one-year deal

ATLANTA (Ticker) -- The Atlanta Braves today avoided salary abritration with setup man Rudy Seanez, agreeing to terms on a one-year contract, and sold the contract of infielder Howard Battle to the Hanshin Tigers of the Japanese Central League.

Financial terms were undisclosed for Seanez, who was paid $625,000 last season, missing the final six weeks due to elbow surgery.

Seanez, 31, established himself as a major leaguer in 1998, then went 6-1 with three saves and a 3.35 ERA in front of controversial closer John Rocker last season.

The signing leaves center fielder Andruw Jones and newly acquired second baseman Quilvio Veras as the lone Braves eligible for arbitration.

Battle, 27, hit .353 with one home run and five RBI in 15 games for the National League champions and .284 with 24 homers and 74 RBI in 121 games for Triple-A Richmond.
