TUCSON, Ariz. -- A former major-eague outfielder reported missing by his family turned up OK but without explaining his absence. Mark Carreon, 36, was reported missing Saturday because his Tucson, Ariz., family hadn't been able to locate him since last hearing from him Nov. 23 in Baton Rouge, La. Carreon, who played for New York Mets and the San Francisco Giants, came to the surface again on Tuesday in Hammond, La., and was "doing OK," Tucson police Sgt. Brett Klein said. He was located when he called his financial adviser to find out why he couldn't access his bank accounts. The accounts were frozen after Carreon's relatives reported him missing, Klein said. He also said there apparently was nothing suspicious in the lack of contact and that the case had been closed. Carreon left Tucson Nov. 20 for McComb, Miss., where his ex-wife lives with his three children. He called relatives Nov. 23 from Baton Rouge to tell them he'd changed course: He was headed to New Orleans to find an attorney to handle his divorce. That was the last relatives heard from him, though he had been calling three or four times a day on his cell phone. "All he was able to tell us was he's OK," said a sister, Christina Carreon. "He sounded OK. We have no idea at this time what happened." She said her brother's financial adviser patched the call through to their mother, Dolores Carreon, and that her brother was to call again Wednesday. |
