Reds OF Ken Griffey Jr. missed his second straight game because of a strained right hamstring. He hopes to be ready for the series starting Monday night at Texas. ''It felt better today,'' Griffey said. ''I went on the treadmill and did some light running and walking, things like that. Tomorrow we'll see what happens and how I respond.''

Saturday. ''It's tough to run,'' manager Dusty Baker said. ''Jeff asked to rest so I knew it was something. He never wants to come out.''
Astros SS Julio Lugo missed his third straight game because of a strained groin, but manager Jimy Williams thinks he'll be back in the lineup soon. ''It's sore, but I don't think it's going to be long,'' he said. Lugo was injured during a ninth-inning rundown play on Wednesday in Arizona.

free agent. While with the Rangers, Franco made three All-Star
