|
Hero of the day Aramis Ramirez belted a two-out, two-run homer in the ninth inning to lift the Pirates to a 5-4 victory over the Astros.

Pirates pitcher Nelson Cruz left the game vs. the Astros in Houston with muscle spasms and is listed as day-to-day.
All-Star catcher Damian Miller missed his third straight game

game against the Dodgers with back spasms and has been listed as
day-to-day.
Mets catcher Mike Piazza was scratched from the starting lineup Monday night against the Marlins because of a sore lower back.
Tampa Bay starter Ryan Rupe aggravated a right knee injury that landed him on the 15-day disabled list last month. He likely will undergo an MRI Tuesday.
Royals All-Star first baseman Mike Sweeney sat out the doubleheader with tightness in his lower back and has missed three straight games.

AMERICAN LEAGUE
Rangers at Royals
Texas: OF Rusty Greer was put back on the disabled list with
recurring lower back and hip pain. He had only one at-bat after
coming off the disabled list on Thursday. He returned Monday to the
Dallas area, where he is to be examined by Dr. Andrew Dossett. ...
INF Donnie Sadler cleared waivers and was an offered an outright
assignment to Oklahoma in the Pacific Coast League. Sadler had 72
hours to decide on whether to accept the assignment.
Kansas City: Royals starting pitchers had a 3.55 ERA in the first 21
games under new pitching coach John Cumberland. Before Cumberland
replaced Al Nipper as the pitching coach, the starters had a 5.24
ERA. ... RHP Runelvys Hernandez became the 13th starting pitcher
used by the Royals this season. He was the ninth Royal to pick his
major league debut in 2002. ... OF Chuck Knoblauch, who went on the
disabled list June 6 with a left forearm strain, reported Monday to
Double-A Wichita to begin an injury rehabilitation assignment.
Red Sox at Tigers
Boston: While many continue to clamor for the Red Sox to make a
trade, perhaps for Cleveland's Jim Thome or the New York Mets' Mo
Vaughn, manager Grady Little refuses to get caught up in the
commotion. "Throughout the history of the Boston Red Sox and New
York Yankees rivalry, there's always been serious competition,''
Little said. "So, any time one of the clubs goes out and makes a
move, people believe the other team should do something. But we
like our club. We could fine-tune it some, but we like our players
and if the players we have do what they're capable of doing, we'll
be fine.'' ... Little, searching for ways to create a spark in the
batting order, chose to move Nomar Garciaparra up to the leadoff
from the third of fourth in the lineup, and to move Johnny Damon
from leadoff to ninth in the order. "It's not a permanent move,
but we need to jump start things,'' Little said. "We've been one
or two hits away from changing the outcome of some games, so maybe
something different will help us.'' ... The Red Sox placed LHP Alan
Embree on the 15-day disabled list Monday to make room for RHP
Rolando Arrojo, who was activated to start against the Tigers.
Detroit: Bobby Higginson, who was publicly critical of the Jeff
Weaver trade, met with team president and general manager Dave
Dombrowski before Monday's game. "We had a meeting, that's all I'm
going to say,'' Higginson said. Higginson did say that he was not
asked to waive the no-trade clause in his contract. ... George
Lombard was in Wendell Magee's place in center field once again on
Monday. "I just don't see a future here for me,'' Magee said.
"I've been here three years now and it seems like it's always
something that they have this idea that I'm the fourth outfielder.
If that's the way they feel about me, cool, but I'd like to go
somewhere else. I should be given that opportunity to play every
day. It's not like we're in a race or anything.'' ... Closer Matt
Anderson, who went on the 60-day DL on June 9 with shoulder
problems, began throwing again for the first time over the weekend.
He said he will throw every other day. "I totally expect to get at
least a month of pitching in before this season is over,'' Anderson
said.
Yankees at Blue Jays
New York: C Jorge Posada wasn't with the team because his wife
gave birth early Monday morning. "They were all up all night. I
think the baby was born at 5 o'clock this morning,'' manager Joe
Torre said. Torre hoped Posada would rejoin the team on Tuesday
because the Yankees don't have a backup C on the roster. Torre said
he probably would play 3B Robin Ventura at C in an emergency. ...
RF Raul Mondesi returned to the lineup Monday, three days after
crashing into an outfield wall. While Mondesi chased Omar Vizquel's
RBI triple in the 10th inning that gave the Indians a 2-1 victory
on Friday, Mondesi's right shoulder and head slammed into the wall.
X-rays on his chest and neck X-rays were negative, but he was too
sore to play Saturday or Sunday. ... Closer Mariano Rivera, who
blew a six-run lead in the ninth inning of Sunday's loss to
Cleveland, didn't second guess himself on Monday. Rivera said some
people think he's a machine. "They think I don't have blood in my
arms. They think I have oil,'' Rivera said. ... Torre gave OF
Rondell White a day off. John Vander Wal played LF.
Toronto: OF Jose Cruz Jr. remained day to day with a strained
left hamstring. INF Dave Berg played RF. The Blue Jays don't have a
fourth OF. Manager Carlos Tosca said he would use C Tom Wilson in
the OF in an emergency. ... INF Chris Woodward played SS for the
17th time this season. Woodward started the season as a utility
INF, but the Blue Jays believe he is a starting SS. Rookie SS
Felipe Lopez didn't start for the second straight game.
Mariners at Orioles
Seattle: The Mariners optioned RHP Julio Mateo to Triple-A
Tacoma on Monday and called up RHP Ryan Franklin, who came off the
disabled list and started Monday against the Orioles. Piniella said
Mateo (0-0, 4.29) pitched well in his 12 appearances out of the
bullpen, but he liked the added flexibility Franklin gave him. "He
can pitch the middle, he can pitch late, he can pitch long. He's
just so versatile,'' Piniella said. ... With 1,284 wins through
Sunday, Piniella found himself 196 behind Orioles Hall of Fame
manager Earl Weaver (18th on the career list). "If I stick around
a bit, I think I'll pass him,'' Piniella said. ... Piniella omitted
3B Jeff Cirillo from the starting lineup, saying Cirillo needed a
break after a 2-for-36 slump dropped his batting average to .236.
Desi Relaford got the start in his place. ... Monday marked the
three-year anniversary of the opening of Safeco Field.
Baltimore: The Orioles purchased the contract of OF Howie Clark
from Triple-A Rochester and designated 1B Ryan McGuire for
assignment. Clark spent 10 years in the minors and a year in the
Mexican League waiting for a chance to play in the big leagues. ...
1B Jeff Conine (strained hamstring) took batting practice Monday,
but said it will be a while before he can leave the disabled list.
"I'm just going about it cautiously,'' he said. "It hurt bad
enough when I ran that I'm proceeding slowly.'' ... The Orioles
needed a win Monday to avoid losing the season series to Seattle.
White Sox at Indians
Chicago: 1B Paul Konerko was not in the lineup for only the
second time all season Monday, and manager Jerry Manuel said it was
not because of an injury. Konerko is in an 0-for-8 slump, one of
his few slides the All-Star has had all season. He leads the White
Sox in games (92), average (.325), hits (112), total bases (197),
homers (22) and RBI (74). "Paul has made the adjustments as a
hitter,'' Manuel said. "He hits the ball the other way. He's our
best at both moving the runners and driving them in. He has really
grown. He is a real team leader, very responsible and mature.'' ...
Despite entering Monday's game nine back of first-place Minnesota,
Manuel isn't ready to concede the AL Central just yet. "I'm
waiting for us to do our thing,'' Manuel said. "We are one of the
few teams that has not run off a hot streak. I feel we have an
outside shot.''
Cleveland: Longtime trainer Jim Warfield took ill on Monday and
was being treated at the Cleveland Clinic. Warfield joined
Cleveland's organization in 1969 and became the club's full-time
trainer in 1971. Several of the Indians wrote "JW'' on their caps
in tribute to the popular Warfield. ... Interestingly, Bill Selby's
walk-off grand slam against the Yankees on Sunday was the first
against New York since 1988 when Detroit's Alan Trammell. New
York's catcher was Cleveland manager Joel Skinner. ... RHP Dave
Elder got another surprise on Monday when he was brought up the
Indians. Last winter, Elder was playing in Venezuela when he
learned he had been traded by Texas to Cleveland. "My manager
(Phil Regan) came up and said, 'Hey, who do you play for in the
States?' And I said, 'Texas,''' Elder recalled. "He said, 'Want to
bet?' And I said, 'Sure.' Then he said, 'You've been traded for
John Rocker.' That's when I said, "Now I know you're lying. It was
a very big shock.'' Elder, 26, was acquired in a December trade for
the controversial Rocker.
Athletics at Devil Rays
Oakland: Manager Art Howe said RHP Cory Lidle will remain in the
starting rotation. Lidle, who was the losing pitcher as Baltimore
beat Oakland 6-3 Sunday, is 2-8 with a 5.57 ERA. Should Howe change
his mind later this season, rookie RHP Aaron Harang could be moved
from bullpen. ... Howe said he is not surprised the AL West race is
wide open. "I thought it might even be a four-team race,'' Howe
said. "Texas' lineup is a scary lineup. They can put double-digit
runs on you every single night you play them.'' The Rangers were 17
games back of the Mariners through Sunday. ... The Athletics will
honor the 1972 World Series championship team before Saturday's
game against Texas. Manager Dick Williams, and former players
including Gene Tenace, Joe Rudi, Vida Blue, Dick Green and John
"Blue Moon'' Odom are expected to attend. Oakland will throw
throwback gold jerseys, while the Rangers will sport 1962
Washington Senators uniforms.
Tampa Bay: Cincinnati is extensively scouting Devil Rays' games.
... LHP Wilson Alvarez, who missed the past two seasons with a left
rotator cuff injury, was being examined by team doctors Monday.
Alvarez reported discomfort after allowing five runs in 1 2-3
innings Sunday against Seattle. "He's being checked,'' manager Hal
McRae said. "We've got a few days to decide what we're going to
do'' Alvarez is in the final season of $35 million, five-year
contract. ... LF/DH Greg Vaughn (right shoulder) hit off a tee for
the first time since going on the disabled list June 23. "No
pain,'' Vaughn said. "It's getting better. It's getting stronger.
It's a good day.'' ... McRae said LHP Joe Kennedy will start
Friday's game at Toronto. That is the day Kennedy will complete a
seven-game suspension for throwing at a batter last month. ...
Minor league pitcher Gerardo Garcia, who was on the World team at
the Futures Game earlier this month, left his start Sunday for
Triple-A Durham after two-thirds of an inning with a blister.
Angels at Twins
Anaheim: The Angels reliever Dennis Cook was going to have
arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder, but he changed his mind
and decided to opt for rehabilitation. An MRI exam Monday in Los
Angeles showed a torn labrum and partial tear of the rotator cuff
in Cook's shoulder. The team set no timetable for his return, but
manager Mike Scioscia said before Monday's game in Minnesota that
Cook wouldn't be able to pitch anymore this season. Cook, 39, began
his career in 1988 with San Francisco. He was 1-1 with a 2.86 ERA
in 22 innings this year before being placed on the disabled list
Saturday, but an injury at his age raises the question of whether
he'll come back. "I think we'll have to leave it open ended,''
Scioscia said. "You never know. Dennis has had a good career, but
if the desire and drive to pitch is still there I think he'll give
it a shot. We'll have to wait until after the surgery.'' ...
Anaheim's bullpen is already shorthanded with RHP Al Levine (right
shoulder tendinitis) on the DL and closer Troy Percival also hurt.
Percival was placed on the disabled list, retroactive to Friday,
with an infected cut near his left Achilles' tendon. He sustained
the scrape while boating during the All-Star break. ... Matt Wise
was recalled from Triple-A Edmonton to take Percival's place.
Minnesota: The Twins have a plethora of pitchers on rehab
assignments. Reliever Bob Wells (elbow) was scheduled to pitch
Monday night for Triple-A Edmonton, and starter Joe Mays (elbow)
was supposed to throw for Double-A New Britain. Right-handers Matt
Kinney (shoulder) and Jack Cressend (shoulder) are in Fort Myers
with the Twins' Gulf Coast League team, which is where ace Brad
Radke is scheduled to arrive on Tuesday. ... Radke threw live
batting practice and nearly got hit in the kneecap by a line drive
hit by Matthew LeCroy, and all who witnessed the session said Radke
used all his pitches and threw well. ... RHP Jose Rodriguez spent
Sunday night in the hospital with blockage in a vein in his upper
left arm. He underwent more tests Monday. ... 1B Garrett Jones his
four homers Sunday for Twins Class A affiliate Quad City, becoming
the first player in the Midwest League in more than 24 years to do
so. He has eight homers on the season.
NATIONAL LEAGUE
Phillies at Expos
Philadelphia: The Phillies began the night 3-7 against Montreal
this season, including 0-3 at Olympic Stadium after being swept
from May 24-26. ... Philadelphia, which split a four-game series in
New York to begin its six-game road trip, has won 12 of its last 17
road games. ... 1B Travis Lee is second in the league in fielding
at his position with one error in 749 chances for a .999 fielding
percentage. St. Louis' Tino Martinez also has one error in 10 more
total chances. ... The Phillies were just 14-for-84 (.167) with the
bases loaded this season.
Montreal: The Expos were a major league-best 29-14 at home after
winning the last two games against Atlanta to split their four-game
series against the NL East leaders. ... RF Vladimir Guerrero has
six walks in his last two games and none were intentional. Nineteen
of Guerrero's 50 walks this season have been intentional. Guerrero
drew a career-high 60 walks last season, including 24 intentional
walks. ... The Expos have homered in eight straight games, hitting
a total of 16 home runs since July 4.
Marlins at Mets
Florida: The Marlins wore retro uniforms from the 1952 Miami
Marlins, a Triple-A team in the International League run by Bill
Veeck. The jerseys were gray with blue writing outlined in orange,
and the caps were bluevin Brown, whom Daal replaced in the
rotation. Brown, recovering from back surgery on June 11, has made
only 28 starts over the last two seasons after averaging 34 starts
over the previous four years. ... LHP Kazuhisa Ishii leads the
Dodgers in strikeouts (105) and walks (69). Only two lefties have
led the club in both categories at the end of s season since the
franchise moved to Los Angeles in 1958 -- Sandy Koufax (1966) and
Fernando Valenzuela (1981 through 1985). ... RHP Darren Dreifort
pitched a simulated game Monday for the first time since his elbow
surgery last July. "He threw all of his pitches, and that was
encouraging,'' manager Jim Tracy said. ... With 21 stolen bases in
26 attempts, leadoff batter Dave Roberts needed just one more to
match the total Tom Goodwin led the Dodgers with in 28 tries last
season. ... Shawn Green, whose 24 homers since May 21 are the most
in the majors during that span, had only one in eight games prior
to Monday night. ... Paul Quantrill has allowed only one home run
in 44 innings this season. Terry Mulholland has surrendered nine
homers in just 23 2-3 innings. ... Paul Lo Duca entered Monday with
a team-high .313 average despite only two hits in his previous 18
at-bats.
New York: All-Star C Mike Piazza was scratched from the starting
lineup because of a sore lower back. "He probably could play
tonight if we needed him,'' manager Bobby Valentine said. ... RHP
Steve Trachsel, on the disabled list with a strained back muscle,
will make a rehabilitation start for Double-A Binghamton on
Tuesday, the same day he is eligible to come off the DL. Mets
general manager Steve Phillips expects that to be Trachsel's only
rehab assignment before rejoining the team. ... John Valentin
started at SS in place of Rey Ordonez, bothered slightly by a sore
ring finger he hurt while diving into first base Sunday. ... The
Mets wore their 1986 uniforms, and a highlight video from that
championship season was shown during batting practice. "I should
have worn my bowtie today,'' Phillips said, a reference to former
GM Frank Cashen, who put the '86 team together. Cashen was
nicknamed "The Bowtie'' for his penchant for wearing them. All the
music during the game was also from 1986.
Braves at Cubs
Atlanta: The Braves' brief two-game series with the Cubs is
their only appearance at Wrigley Field this season. ... Greg
Maddux, who hurt his calf Friday while running the bases in
Montreal, is fine and won't miss his next start. "Greg threw fine
yesterday and as far as I know, he's OK,'' manager Bobby Cox said.
... Albie Lopez rejoined the Braves from the disabled list,
replacing Darren Holmes, who lacerated his right thumb when he fell
over a curb in Montreal on Friday. Lopez had been on the DL since
June 28 with tendinitis of the right shoulder. Holmes was put on
the DL retroactive to July 7. ... Cox brushed up on the baseball
labor situation by reading a weekly magazine in the dugout while
the Cubs were taking batting practice.
Chicago: On '70s night at Wrigley Field, Sammy Sosa donned an
afro wig, sun glasses and a heavy chain before meeting Tony Orlando
and then taking batting practice. Orlando -- without "Dawn'' -- wore
a Sosa jersey while singing a pregame medley of his greatest hits.
... Interim manager Bruce Kimm's major change to the lineup since
replacing Don Baylor has been dropping Corey Patterson from leadoff
to No. 6 in the order and placing Mark Bellhorn at top of the
lineup. In four starts as the leadoff hitter, Bellhorn responded
well, going 6 for-16 with four walks and six runs scored. ... Kimm
said communication with players won't be a problem with him. "I
just go up and talk to them,'' he said. "I want my players to be
happy and enjoy themselves.'' And once a game is over, he said,
it's time to move on. "When you have a rough game, turn the page.
You don't have time to worry about struggling. You have to go about
your business.''
Pirates at Astros
Pittsburgh: In the first two weeks of July, the Pirates had 17
home runs, well ahead of their previous month paces when they had
12 in April, and 24 in each of the months of May and June. ...
Double plays have gone Pittsburgh's way lately. Entering Monday's
game, the Pirates had at least one double play in each of the last
10 games and had not had a double play turned against them since
July 5 vs. The Astros at PNC Park.
Houston: Despite ending a five-game winning streak on Sunday,
the Astros still feel they have momentum with 11 wins in 14 games.
"That was just a bump in the road,'' C Gregg Zaun said of the 8-3
loss to Cincinnati. "We've been playing real well lately and I
think we will continue to play well.'' ... The Astros farm system continues to lead all organizations with
a .577 winning percentage (237-174). Triple-A New Orleans leads the
Pacific Coast League East Division, while Double-A Round Rock took
the Texas League first-half West Division title and Class-A
Michigan won the Midwest League Eastern Division first-half title.
Reds at Brewers
Cincinnati: C Kelly Stinnett was recalled from a rehab
assignment at Triple-A Louisville and reinstated Monday. C Corky
Miller was optioned to Louisville. Stinnett had been on rehab with
tendinitis in his right elbow. ... The Reds were set to tie a club
record Monday for the longest time without a complete game (92
games). LHP Lance Davis pitched the last complete game on July 16
of last year, in a 9-1 win over Detroit. ... RHP Chris Reitsma
brought a career-high losing streak into Monday's game with seven
straight losses. His last victory was May 21, 3-0 over Florida.
Milwaukee: Richie Sexson started at first base for the second
straight game Monday and hopes to stay in the lineup, but nagging
tendinitis in his left hamstring has his manager Jerry Royster
concerned. ... RHP Nick Neugebauer did some soft tossing Monday and
will throw off the mound again on Tuesday. GM Dean Taylor said the
Brewers might know by the end of the week if Neugebauer, who has
been plagued by shoulder problems, is ready to go on a rehab
assignment. Neugebauer celebrated his 22nd birthday Monday. ... The
Brewers went into Monday's game with the best batting average since
May 25 (.286), just ahead of the Yankees at .283. ... The Brewers
signed OF Steve Moss, their 29th round selection in the June
amateur draft. Moss will join the Brewers team in the Arizona
Rookie League.
Cardinals at Dodgers
St. Louis: Andy Benes is to come off the 60-day DL on Tuesday to
start against the Dodgers -- his first appearance since April 15.
Benes has been sidelined because of an arthritic right knee. ...
Rookie RHP Jason Simontacchi, who pitches Wednesday night against
San Francisco, has a chance to join RHP Bob Tewksbury (1994) and
Garrett Stephenson (2000) as the only Cardinals starters to begin a
season 8-1 since Joaquin Andujar won 12 of his first 13 decisions
in 1985. ... The Cardinals haven't made a trade with the Dodgers
since Aug. 16, 1988, when they acquired LF Pedro Guerrero for LHP
John Tudor. It's their longest drought on the trading block with
any NL team. ... The Central Division-leading Cardinals entered
Monday 19-22 on the road. No NL or AL club has won its division
with a losing road record since 1998, when Texas took the AL West
despite a 40-41 road mark. The last time it happened in the NL was
1997, when Central Division champ Houston was 38-43.
Los Angeles: LHP Omar Daal, who began the season in the bullpen,
made his 10th start on Monday night. He now has one more than
injury-plagued Kevin Brown, whom Daal replaced in the rotation.
Brown, recovering from back surgery on June 11, has made only 28
starts over the last two seasons after averaging 34 starts over the
previous four years. ... LHP Kazuhisa Ishii leads the Dodgers in
strikeouts (105) and walks (69). Only two lefties have led the club
in both categories at the end of s season since the franchise moved
to Los Angeles in 1958 -- Sandy Koufax (1966) and Fernando
Valenzuela (1981 through 1985). ... RHP Darren Dreifort pitched a
simulated game Monday for the first time since his elbow surgery
last July. "He threw all of his pitches, and that was
encouraging,'' manager Jim Tracy said. ... With 21 stolen bases in
26 attempts, leadoff batter Dave Roberts needs just one more to
match the total Tom Goodwin led the Dodgers with in 28 tries last
season. ... Shawn Green, whose 24 homers since May 21 are the most
in the majors during that span, had only one in eight games prior
to Monday night. ... Paul Quantrill has allowed only one home run
in 44 innings this season. Terry Mulholland has surrendered nine
homers in just 23 2-3 innings. ... Paul Lo Duca entered Monday with
a team-high .313 average despite only two hits in his previous 18
at-bats.
Diamondbacks at Giants
Arizona: The Diamondbacks have a two-game set against the Giants
followed by another two-game set against the Rockies in Colorado.
... RHP Rick Helling was starting his 164th straight game Monday
night against the Giants. He has not missed a start because of
injury since joining the Texas rotation on Aug. 18, 1997. ... LHP
Randy Johnson, set to start Tuesday against the Giants, has gone
three straight starts without a win, going 0-1. His last win was at
Houston on June 26. ... Byung-Hyun Kim was named NL Player of the
Week for three straight saves on consecutive days against Los
Angeles. ... 3B Matt Williams, who missed the first 87 games of the
season with a broken leg and dislocated left ankle, was not in the
lineup Monday night after playing three games in Los Angeles.
San Francisco: Manager Dusty Baker said facing Randy Johnson on
Tuesday is hardly daunting to the Giants. "We've beaten Randy
before. We've beaten Schilling before. I think our record is pretty
close to .500 against each of them,'' Baker said. Johnson is 4-3
with a 2.94 ERA is 10 career starts against the Giants. ... Baker
needs three more victories to reach 800, becoming the third Giants'
manager with as many wins, behind John McGraw and Bill Terry. ...
Going into Monday night's game, the Giants led the NL with 104
double plays. ... After the short two-game set against the
Diamondbacks, the Giants open a five-game road trip with a two-game
series against St. Louis before a weekend set against the Dodgers.
"It's easier for us to prep for this series against Arizona
because we just saw them four games ago,'' Baker said. "We haven't
seen St. Louis at all.''
Rockies at Padres
Colorado: RHP Denny Stark returned to the starting rotation
Monday night against San Diego, making his first start since June 3
against Los Angeles. He spent the last 1½ months in the bullpen,
going 1-0 with a 2.40 ERA in 12 appearances. In five starts this
season, he went 3-1 with a 3.34 ERA. He became the fifth pitcher in
club history to win his first three starts. ... Going into Monday's
game, the Rockies-Padres all-time series was tied 64-64.
San Diego: RHP Adam Eaton, on a rehab assignment from
reconstructive surgery on his pitching elbow a year ago, threw
batting practice Monday. ... LHP Kevin Walker, who had
reconstructive surgery on his pitching elbow in August, will begin
a rehab assignment on Thursday. General manager Kevin Towers said
both Eaton and Walker will probably each make a start in September,
and that both will probably play winter ball. "We're going to be
cautious with these guys,'' Towers said. ... Towers said rookie
Sean Burroughs will probably be back up with the Padres in another
month. On the disabled list, Burroughs is on a rehab assignment at
Triple-A Portland. Burroughs is learning to play second base, which
will allow Phil Nevin to stay at third and Ryan Klesko at first. In
spring training, the Padres moved Nevin to 1B and Klesko to RF to
make room for the highly touted Burroughs. Burroughs struggled,
largely because of a shoulder injury that occurred in September
while playing in Triple-A. He was benched on May 27 and Nevin moved
back to third. Burroughs was put on the DL on May 30, retroactive
to May 29, with a slight tear in his right rotator cuff. He was
batting .221.
