MESA, Arizona (Ticker) -- Sammy Sosa homered twice as a split squad of Chicago Cubs posted a 9-8 victory over the Anaheim Angels in Cactus League action.

Sosa, who has a total of 129 homers the last two seasons, took over the exhibition lead with his fifth and sixth. He hit a two-run homer off Tom Candiotti in the first inning and a solo shot off closer Troy Percival in the seventh.

Ismael Valdes, preparing for his first season with the Cubs, gave up three runs and six hits with four walks and four strikeouts over four innings.

Mike Heathcott pitched a scoreless frame for the victory.

Candiotti, trying to make the Angels staff, allowed two runs and four hits over four innings. Scot Shields took the loss in relief, allowing two runs and five hits in one-plus frame.

Julio Zuleta added his third home run of the spring for the Cubs. He went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI. Eric Young and Cole Liniak each added two of Chicago's 16 hits.

Troy Glaus went 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI and Orlando Palmeiro scored twice for the Angels.
