SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Panic?
The San Francisco Giants say the thought never occurred.

Barry Bonds and Ellis Burks each drove in two runs in a five-run
first inning, and the Giants beat the San Diego Padres 10-2 Sunday
to stop their two-game losing streak.
Kirk Rueter (10-9) pitched five-hit ball for seven innings to
win consecutive decisions for the first time since winning four in
a row from June 9-July 1.
"I don't think anybody panicked," Rueter said. "We'd just won
nine of 11. Me? I was just happy to get five runs in the first
inning. You don't want to go on the road after losing three in a
row."
He became the first Giants left-hander since Mike McCormick
(1958-61) to win 10 or more games in four consecutive seasons.
"It's just great to see Woody win," Giants manager Dusty Baker
said. "He pitched a great game, and now we have another guy in
double digits."
Jay Witasick (3-2) lost for the first time in five starts since
Aug. 14 against Atlanta, allowing seven runs, eight hits and four
walks in 5 1/3 innings. He struck out seven.
"In the first inning, he was out of synch," San Diego manager
Bruce Bochy said. "His rhythm was off and they took advantage of
it. When the other team puts up a crooked number like that it's
hard to overcome."
Pinch-hitter Damon Minor hit a three-run homer in the seventh
off Todd Erdos for his first major league hit.
San Francisco, which had lost two straight following an
eight-game winning streak, hasn't lost three consecutive games
since Aug. 11-13 at New York. The Giants began the day 6½ games of
second-place Arizona in the NL West.
"The Giants are playing as well as anybody," Bochy said.
"They really don't have a weakness. They get production throughout
the lineup."
San Francisco went ahead in the first on Bonds' two-run triple,
an error by shortstop Desi Relaford on Jeff Kent's grounder and
Burks' 23rd homer, his ninth since Aug. 14.
Burks left the game after the fifth inning. He had slipped and
fell trying to track down Ryan Klesko's double in the fourth.
"I don't like it when you fall down like that when you've got
knee problems," Baker said. "Hopefully, it's minor and he'll be
back in a couple of days."
Burks said he didn't think it was anything serious.
"My left leg stuck and my right knee twisted somehow," he
said. "I don't have the feeling like it's torn. If it's stiff when
I wake up I won't play."
In the second, J.T. Snow hit his 14th sacrifice fly, setting an
NL record for left-handed batters.
After Klesko doubled and went to third on an infield groundout,
Eric Owens hit a sacrifice fly, but Marvin Benard homered leading
off the bottom half, his first in 85 at-bats since Aug. 15, for a
7-1 lead.
San Diego's Greg LaRocca got his first major league RBI in the
seventh with a single. Later in the inning, Owens singled and tried
to stretch it to a double, only to find Ed Sprague holding at
second. Owens then was thrown out trying to return to first.
