GAME LOG
ATLANTA (AP) -- It had been awhile since Chipper Jones delivered.
Jones, battling the worst slump of his career, drove in the
go-ahead run with a double in a five-run eighth inning Friday night
as the Atlanta Braves rallied past the Los Angeles Dodgers 7-2.

"I finally hit a ball hard," said Jones, in a 1-for-27 slide
before the hit. "When you go through a streak like this, it's more
mental than anything else."
It was the first RBI since Aug. 1 for Jones, who has a
team-leading 80. "It was a hit-and-run, so I had to swing," Jones said of his
liner into the left-center gap, which rolled to the wall.
Andres Galarraga, who missed Atlanta's previous three games
because of soreness in his left thumb, added a two-run,
pinch-double in the big inning.
B.J. Surhoff's seventh-inning homer, his first for Atlanta, tied
the score at 2 against Chan Ho Park. Surhoff, acquired from
Baltimore on July 31, was 3-for-4 and has seven hits in his last 11
at-bats. "It felt good," said Surhoff, who was making his debut at
Turner Field.
Andruw Jones opened the eighth with a single off Terry Adams
(4-4) and scored on the double by Chipper Jones. "Maybe he'll really get on track now," Braves manager Bobby
Cox said.
Wally Joyner's RBI single made it 4-2 and Javy Lopez hit a
run-scoring grounder before and Gregg Olson came on in relief.
Galarraga, batting for Mike Remlinger (4-2), doubled to
right-center.
Remlinger pitched a hitless eighth, helping send Los Angeles to
its fifth loss in six games. Braves starter Kevin Millwood allowed two runs and five hits in
seven innings, striking out Gary Sheffield three times. Sheffield
also struck out in the ninth against John Rocker.
"It was a bad night," said Sheffield, who has 36 homers, tied
for the major-league lead in homers with the Cubs' Sammy Sosa. "We
played seven innings of good ball and kind of let it slip away."
Park gave up two runs and seven hits in seven innings. "Chan Ho pitched great, but we didn't get anything going on
offense," Dodgers manager Davey Johnson said. "Millwood changed
speeds well and kept us off balance all night."
Los Angeles took a 2-0 lead in the fifth when Eric Karros
doubled and scored on a single by Chad Kreuter, who scored on a
two-out double by Park.
Atlanta, coming off a 4-5 road trip, got a run in the fifth when
Surhoff singled, Lopez walked and Keith Lockhart, who was 3-for-4,
hit an RBI single.
Game notes The crowd of 48,824 was Atlanta's 16th sellout. ... Brian
Jordan, who sat out Wednesday's game at Cincinnati with a strained
left groin, was in the starting lineup as was Lopez, who missed
Wednesday's game because of a sore left knee. ... Braves pitching
coach Leo Mazzone, who fainted during Tuesday night's game and
spent the night in a Cincinnati hospital, had additional tests
Friday at Atlanta's Piedmont Hospital. "Everything came back OK.
I'm fine." ... The Dodgers signed their 12th-round draft pick,
Travis Ezi, an outfielder from Southwestern High in Baltimore. ...
Dodgers closer Jeff Shaw, who struggled in the first half, has
converted all six save chances and has pitched 12 scoreless innings
since coming off the DL July 13.
