Koch notches 26th save

RECAP | BOX SCORE | GAME LOG

TORONTO (AP) -- Darrin Fletcher couldn't help but give himself some credit Friday night. Fletcher hit a tiebreaking, two-run double in the eighth inning to lead the Toronto Blue Jays over the Texas Rangers 10-8.

"I'd don't want to pat myself on the back, but it was one of my best at-bats of the season," he said.

With the score 8-all, Tony Batista singled off Mike Venafro (1-1) with two outs in the eighth, Jose Cruz Jr. was hit by pitch and Fletcher, a lefty, doubled down the left-field line, giving him three RBIs.

"I'd rather not face him. He's a lefty, and he throws from the side. I'm not supposed to get a hit there," Fletcher said. "He's a tough assignment, but I got the hit."

Paul Quantrill (2-5) got the final out of the eighth, and Billy Koch pitched a perfect ninth for his 26th save in 30 chances.

Texas trailed 8-5 in the eighth but tied it on Rafael Palmeirio's homer off Lance Painter, Rickey Ledee's RBI single off Mark Guthrie and Royce Clayton's run-scoring single off Quantrill.

Steve Trachsel, making his Blue Jays' debut, gave up five runs -- four earned -- and six hits in 6 1-3 innings. Trachsel was acquired Monday from Tampa Bay. "I was kind of nervous, and I wasn't quite as sharp as I would have liked to have been," Trachsel said.

Texas starter Matt Perisho allowed five runs -- three earned -- and eight hits in six-plus innings. "We had a lead, but we let them off the hook," Perisho said.

Bill Haselman's two-run homer, his second of the season, put Texas ahead in the second and Frank Catalanotto's RBI single in the third made it 3-0.

Alex Gonzalez homered for Toronto in the bottom half, but Frank Catalanotto added an RBI grounder in the fifth for a 4-1 lead.

Run-scoring singles by Brad Fullmer and Cruz cut the lead to a run in the bottom half, but the Rangers took a 5-3 lead in the seventh when second baseman Chris Woodward made a throwing error on a potential double play.

Toronto scored five runs in the bottom half on an error by reliever Francisco Cordero, Fletcher's RBI single and Shannon Stewart's three-run double.
