TORONTO (AP) -- Homer Bush was an unlikely hero Friday night. Bush tied the game with his first homer of the season, then Raul Mondesi won it with a game-winning grounder in the bottom of the ninth as the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 3-2. "It was probably the last thing on my mind," Bush said. Jeff Brantley (1-3) gave up the one-out home run to Bush in the ninth for his second blown save in 16 chances. It was Bush's first homer since Sept. 4 at Kansas City. "I guessed fastball," said Bush, whose homer just cleared the fence in left field. "I thought it was a popup." Shannon Stewart followed with a single, and as he was attempting to steal second, Craig Grebeck hit a single past second baseman Mickey Morandini, who was trying to cover the bag, allowing Stewart to reach third. Mondesi followed with a groundball to third baseman Scott Rolen, whose throw to the plate was not in time to get Stewart. "The only bad pitch I made was the one Bush hit out," Brantley said. "It caught too much of the plate, but when a guy is hitting .214 you have to throw strikes." Billy Koch (5-1) allowed one hit in the ninth for the victory. Phillies starter Randy Wolf allowed just one run in seven innings, and has pitched at least six innings in 17 of 18 starts. The 23-year-old left-hander allowed nine hits, struck out five, and walked two. He has not allowed a home run in his last four starts after allowing at least one in 13 of his first 14. With two runners in scoring position in the third inning, Wolf struck out Carlos Delgado, who leads the American League with 29 home runs. In the sixth, with two on and two outs, he struck out Stewart. With runners on first and second and two outs in the seventh, Ron Gant lined a sharp single to left off reliever John Frascatore. Stewart charged the ball, but it kicked off his glove, allowing Desi Relaford to score the go-ahead run without a throw. Toronto starter Kelvim Escobar pitched six innings of three-hit ball before being replaced in the seventh. Escobar was a last-minute replacement for Frank Castillo, who couldn't start because of a tender elbow. Castillo will be further evaluated Saturday morning. "It was crazy. They told me 10 minutes before the game. I had to run to the bullpen to get ready," Escobar said. "I felt great after the game because I wasn't ready." The Phillies took a 1-0 lead in the fourth after Rolen walked and scored on Mike Lieberthal's double. After Wolf allowed a walk and a double in the bottom half, Alberto Castillo hit a run-scoring grounder to tie it. Game notesBush, hitting just .223, has 14 hits in his last 36 at-bats, and has hit in nine consecutive games. ... Gant broke an 0-for-15 slump with a homer in the 8-5 victory Thursday. ... The Phillies placed right-handed pitcher Wayne Gomes on the 15-day disabled list with tendinitis in his right elbow. Gomes was 4-4 with a 3.31 ERA in a team-leading 43 appearances. The Phillies recalled RHP Mark Brownson from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to take Gomes' place. Brownson was 7-6 with a 4.89 ERA in 16 starts. ... Toronto manager Jim Fregosi said shortstop Alex Gonzalez should be able to play in three to six days. Gonzalez has missed 10 games with a strained right groin. ... Attendance was 21,385. ... The Blue Jays' female mascot "Diamond" quit because the job took too much of a toll on her body.
