MIAMI (AP) -- Mike Piazza's streak of consecutive games with at least one RBI
came to a relatively quiet end.
Derrek Lee hit a two-run homer in the ninth inning Monday night
to give Florida a 2-0 victory over the New York Mets.

The Florida Marlins will get their fill of the Joneses.
Bobby J. Jones pitched for the Mets on Monday, and Bobby M. Jones will pitch on Tuesday.
The Mets intend to promote the left-handed Bobby M. Jones from
Norfolk to start Tuesday's game.
"If he pitches like the right-handed Bobby Jones, we'll be in a
good shape," Mets manager Bobby Valentine said after Monday
night's 2-0 loss to the Marlins.

"Streaks come and go," said Piazza, who went 1-for-4 with
three flyouts, the first two with runners in scoring position. "It
was fun while it lasted. You can debate what kind of significance
the streak was."
Piazza had RBI in 15 consecutive games, two short of the record
set by Ray Grimes of the Chicago Cubs in 1922.
The closest Piazza came to extending his string was in the
eighth inning, when he hit a high fly off the left-field scoreboard
for a double that stretched his hitting streak to 21 games.
He got a second chance in that at-bat when Lee, the Marlins'
first baseman, overran Piazza's foul ball down the line. No error
was charged.
"The bats were flat tonight," Piazza said. "It hurts twice as
bad, but more disappointing from the team standpoint."
Florida starter Jesus Sanchez then intentionally walked Todd
Zeile and retired Robin Ventura on a deep flyout to center.

"I was hoping Mike's (double) would make it, but it missed by
about 5 feet," Mets manager Bobby Valentine said. "I thought
Robin's was gone, and hoping Mike's was."
Florida won its fourth in a row. The Mets, who swept a
three-game series from the Marlins at home last week, have lost two
in a row after winning nine of 10.
With one out in the Marlins ninth, Mike Lowell singled off Turk
Wendell (4-4). Lee followed with his 17th home run, a drive over
the center-field fence.
"That was unbelievable," said Lee, who nearly was ejected
earlier for arguing a called third strike. "That's the first time
I've done that in my career. I hardly touched home plate because
they tackled me."
Armando Almanza (2-0) got two outs for the win. He struck out
Melvin Mora with a runner on second to end the ninth.
"It's great to win on a walk-off home run," Marlins manager
John Boles said. "It was a great game regardless who won it."
Sanchez, who hasn't won since April 22 -- a drought that included
an 0-7 record with four no-decisions -- allowed four hits in eight
shutout innings. He struck out four and walked four.
Bobby J. Jones, who entered the game with a two-game winning
streak but an 8.10 ERA, gave up four hits in six innings.

Lee's 17th homer matched his career high, set in 1997. It
was the third walkoff homer for the Marlins this season. ... The
Marlins are 42-41. Last year, they didn't win their 42nd game until
Aug. 6. ... Despite a pitchout, Luis Castillo stole second when
Piazza's throw sailed into center. It was Castillo's 35th steal,
tying him for the major league lead with Colorado's Tom Goodwin.
The Marlins were 4-for-4 on steal attempts. ... Injured Florida RHP
Alex Fernandez, on the disabled list for the past six weeks, has
shown no sign of returning to the mound anytime soon. The soreness
in his right elbow and the back of his surgically repaired right
shoulder still prevents him from throwing.
