MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Mike Cameron more than made up for his embarrassing play in center field in which a ball bounced off his glove for a two-run double.

"There was one ball I should have caught, but other than that,
it was a pretty good day," said Cameron, who belted a career-high
four hits, tied his major league-best with five RBI and hit his
first career grand slam in Seattle's 12-5 victory over Minnesota on
Thursday night.
"I've been up so many times with the bases loaded and hit
doubles and singles and strikeouts," Cameron said. "So, when it
gets out, you've got to enjoy it. We all know it's not going to last
forever."
Rob Ramsey (1-1), who relieved injured starter Paul Abbott,
pitched 2 2/3 innings for his first major league victory, and Rickey Henderson had three singles, scored three runs and reached base four times for Seattle.
"Rickey's been swinging the ball well this road trip, and he's
been making some nice plays in the outfield," Mariners manager Lou
Piniella said. "I was first with him in New York as a rookie
manager. Now he's near the end of his career and I've gone 14 years
as a manager. I've always enjoyed being around Rickey."
Alex Rodriguez and John Olerud each hit two-run homers off LaTroy Hawkins in the ninth after the Twins had trimmed a seven-run
deficit to 8-5. Rodriguez's homer was his 18th and Olerud's was his
fourth.
Twins starter Mark Redman (4-2), who surrendered six earned runs
on eight hits, five walks and no strikeouts, needed 82 pitches to
record seven outs.
"You can't walk those guys," Twins manager Tom Kelly said.
"You give stuff away, they're going to take advantage. They've got
too many good hitters. And that's what we did, we gave them too
much and couldn't catch up."
Redman gave up three straight singles to start the game before Edgar Martinez bounced into a fielder's choice, driving in one run. Cameron followed an RBI single by Henderson in the second with a
shot over the power alley in left for a 6-1 lead.
Two batters before Cameron's slam, Mark McLemore hit a line
drive that whizzed by Redman's right ear.
"That startled me a little bit," Redman admitted. "Last year,
I was hit in the head by a line drive (at Salt Lake). That brought
back some memories. I thought it nicked me, but it blew by my ear.
If the ball would have hit me, it would have hit me in the side of
my head, and I don't know what would have happened."
In the fifth, Henderson singled, stole second and scored on
Cameron's single off Hector Carrasco. Alex Rodriguez made it 8-1
with another single.
Cameron's night wasn't all good. He misplayed Corey Koskie's
drive in the seventh and the ball bounced off his glove for a
two-run double.
The Twins scored two more in the eighth, on Butch Huskey's
run-scoring groundout and Jay Canizaro's RBI single.
Abbott handcuffed the Twins, allowing only Matt Lawton's
sacrifice fly in the first, before leaving after four innings with
cramps in his right hamstring.
"It started around the third and he even had trouble walking
off the mound," Piniella said. "So, with that, we couldn't send
him out there and risk something. It's a shame because he was
pitching so well and had a big lead."
Game notes
After the game, the Twins recalled RHP Mike Lincoln from
Salt Lake and sent OF Brian Buchanan to Salt Lake. ... Mariners
placed C Dan Wilson on the 15-day DL with a pulled muscle in his
left side and recalled veteran Joe Oliver from Triple A Tacoma.
Wilson pulled a muscle near his left rib cage in the second inning
of the Mariners' loss at Kansas City on Wednesday night. ...
Seattle's David Bell flied out to center field twice in second
inning.
