Wetteland converts 11th straight save chance

RECAP | BOX SCORE | GAME LOG

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Chad Curtis hit a two-run homer and Kenny Rogers pitched six solid innings as the Texas Rangers beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-3 Saturday night.

Chad Curtis
Chad Curtis broke out of an 0-for-15 slump with a two-run homer.

Curtis was 0-for-15 when starting in right field before driving a shot to center in the fourth inning.

Rogers (5-5) scattered four hits and struck out five. He has lasted at least six innings in all 11 starts this season and has allowed three or fewer earned runs in his last four.

John Wetteland pitched the ninth for his 14th save. He has converted 11 straight chances, a team record.

It all added up to ruin the major league debut of Nelson Figueroa (0-1), who was called up from Triple-A Tucson on Friday. Figueroa, the 14th pitcher to start a game in Arizona history, allowed four earned runs on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings. He struck out two and walked one.

David Segui, who finished 3-for-4, drove in a run with a single up the middle in the fourth inning, and Curtis followed with his seventh home run to make it 3-1 for Texas. Ivan Rodriguez kept the no-out rally going by reaching on Arizona third baseman Matt Williams' error, but then was caught trying to steal third.

Rodriguez twice reached on errors by Williams, who came into the game with no miscues this season.

Hanley Frias and Jay Bell had consecutive doubles in the third inning for Arizona's first run.

Rogers retired nine of the next 10 batters before opening the seventh inning with a four-pitch walk to Williams, followed by a single by Steve Finley. Turner Ward then hit a run-scoring single off reliever Tim Crabtree.

Texas scored its final run in the seventh, on Rusty Greer's groundout to first in the seventh.

Arizona's Luis Gonzalez made it 4-3 in the eighth with a run-scoring double off Crabtree.

Game notes
The Rangers' Jason McDonald broke an 0-for-16 slump with a single to right in the third inning. He finished 2-for-4. ... Williams has 12 errors the last two seasons, and five have been in Texas. ... Bell's walk in the sixth inning was his 40th in 55 games. Bell set the team record with 82 last season.
