BOX SCORE
MONTREAL (AP) _ Jon Lieber won his third straight decision, pitching the Chicago Cubs past the Montreal Expos 2-1 Saturday night. Lieber (4-2) allowed seven hits in his second complete game of the season. He struck out five and walked none. The Expos trailed by a run when Jose Vidro hit a leadoff double in the eighth. Cubs second baseman Eric Young made a diving stop on Lee Stevens' hard grounder to prevent Vidro from scoring with two outs. Vidro also had a single in extending his hitting streak to a career-high 11 games. Tony Armas Jr. (0-1) allowed two runs and three hits in five innings in his season debut with the Expos. Making just his second major league start, he also walked five, and two of them came in to score. Armas, called up from Double-A Harrisburg last Aug. 16 to make an emergency start for the Expos in San Francisco, retired the first five batters he faced before walking Willie Greene with two outs in the second. Shane Andrews also walked and Damon Buford followed with an RBI single. Greene scored on a close play at the plate, sliding home safely just ahead of right fielder Vladimir Guerrero's throw. The Cubs made it 2-0 in the third as Sammy Sosa drew a two-out walk and scored on Henry Rodriguez's RBI double to the wall in right-center. Armas struck out two, getting Sosa both times. Montreal cut the lead to 2-1 on Andy Tracy's two-out RBI single in the sixth. Notes:@ OF Dave Martinez is expected to join the Cubs on Sunday. Martinez, acquired from Tampa Bay on Friday for LHP Mark Guthrie and cash, will wear the No. 1, as he did during his first stint with the Cubs from 1986-88. ... Expos relievers Ugueth Urbina and Scott Strickland are both scheduled to have surgery on their ailing right arms next Wednesday, though Strickland threw long toss without any pain in his shoulder prior to Saturday night's game. Strickland will throw on the side Sunday.
