SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- The San Francisco Giants still can't win at their new bayside ballpark. Chris Widger homered and doubled to drive in five runs, keying a late rally that carried the Montreal Expos to a 9-3 victory over the Giants on Friday night. The loss dropped San Francisco to 0-6 at Pacific Bell Park, one defeat shy of the worst start by a team playing its first season in a new stadium. "Any loss is frustrating," said San Francisco's Marvin Benard. "When we try too hard we fail. But we're going to be all right. We just have to relax and play baseball." The expansion New York Mets dropped their first seven games at the Polo Grounds in 1962. It's the first time a team has ever lost six straight to start its stay in a newly constructed facility. "We've got to get it together at home," said San Francisco manager Dusty Baker, whose club had won its five previous games, all on the road. "We've got 12 more games on this homestand. We're going to get some wins." Widger, who had a two-run homer off Russ Ortiz (2-3) in the seventh to forge a 3-3 tie, had another key hit in Montreal's six-run eighth. "I just happened to get a little lucky on that pitch," Widger said of his home run. "It was a ball that was a little up in the strike zone. On a pitch like that, I usually pop it up. He had been pitching a great ball game." Jose Vidro began the eighth inning with a single and Ortiz then walked Wilton Guerrero. Felix Rodriguez relieved and walked Vladimir Guerrero to load the bases. Lee Stevens greeted Aaron Fultz with a two-run single and Widger lined a three-run double down the third-base line off John Johnstone. Pinch-hitter Geoff Blum finished off the outburst with a sacrifice fly. "I don't know what happened. Everybody just all chipped in a little bit," Widger said. Anthony Telford (3-1) got the win with an inning of perfect relief. With the score tied at 1, Jeff Kent doubled off the brick facade in right to start the sixth and Ellis Burks followed with an RBI triple. J.T. Snow's sacrifice fly scored Burks to put San Francisco up 3-1. Montreal came right back in the top of the seventh to tie it again. Michael Barrett beat out on infield single and Widger followed with his fourth homer, driving Ortiz's 1-1 offering into the left field seats. "I had one bad pitch in the seventh inning. We were going up and in and it cut right over the middle of the plate and he saw it up there," Ortiz said. Vidro added a first-inning RBI single for Montreal and San Francisco got an RBI double from Bill Mueller in the bottom of the inning. Expos starter Hideki Irabu, who didn't figure in the decision, went six innings and allowed three runs on nine hits while striking out four and walking one.
