Marlins' Penny money in major-league debut

RECAP | BOX SCORE | GAME LOG

MIAMI (AP) -- Brad Penny, backed by Kevin Millar's tiebreaking three-run triple, won in his major league debut as the Florida Marlins beat the Colorado Rockies 4-3 Friday night.

Masato Yoshii (0-1), acquired from the New York Mets during the offseason, made his Colorado debut and led 1-0 until the sixth when Luis Castillo and Alex Gonzalez walked, and Preston Wilson hit a game-tying, opposite-field double.

Stan Belinda relieved and walked Mike Lowell, loading the bases. Millar then drove the ball into the right-center field gap.

Mike Lansing homered twice for Colorado, including a two-run shot off Dan Miceli in the eighth that pulled the Rockies within a run.

Antonio Alfonseca pitched a hitless ninth for his second save in three chances.

Penny, a 6-foot-4 right-hander, was acquired with Vladimir Nunez and Abraham Nunez from the Diamondbacks last year. Penny allowed one run and six hits in seven innings, getting help from three double plays.

He became the first Marlins pitcher to go seven innings in his major league debut and the third to earn a win in his first game. The previous longest stint was by Tony Saunders, who went 6 2/3 innings on April 5, 1997.

Yoshii gave up three runs and four hits in 5 2/3 innings, struck out five and walked three.

Lansing's solo homer in the first inning put the Rockies ahead, his first homer since offseason back surgery.

Game notes
After drawing a franchise-low 7,741 Thursday, the Marlins got a crowd of 13,803. ... Gonzalez tripled in the first inning, ending an 0-for-17 start, but stranded. ... Lansing was robbed of a hit when Gonzalez, Florida's shortstop, snared his roller up the middle and threw him out.
