TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) _ Jaime Navarro didn't really care that he was facing his former Chicago White Sox teammates for the first time.

All that acrimony last season? Forgotten. The troubles he had with fans? As if it never happened.

"I don't have no regrets against any of those guys out there," he said. "Things didn't happen in Chicago, but hey, move on. I'm here. My job is to represent the Milwaukee Brewers and win as many games as I can for this organization."

Navarro, traded to the Brewers in January, gave up five runs and 10 hits in 5 2-3 innings as Milwaukee and Chicago played to a 12-inning, 8-8 tie Sunday. He also walked one and struck out two.

Frank Thomas went 3-for-4 with three RBIs for the White Sox, and Jose Hernandez homered and drove in four runs for the Brewers. Chicago starter Kip Wells, pitching for the first time since Mo Vaughn's line drive hit him in the right shoulder March 19, gave up six runs and 11 hits in five innings.

"As far as my shoulder is concerned, I didn't have any pain or stiffness that held me back," Wells said. "Mechanically, I was kind of erratic. Sometimes I was staying closed, sometimes I was open. It's hard to stay consistent with your pitches when your mechanics are erratic."

After Navarro went 15-12 with a 3.92 ERA in 1996 with the Cubs, the White Sox lured him to the South Side with a four-year, $20 million contract. He was supposed to be the cornerstone of their pitching staff, and was the opening day starter in 1997 and 1998.

But he struggled his entire time on the South Side. He never won more than nine games, he couldn't get his ERA below 5.79 and he was demoted to the bullpen in both 1998 and 1999.

He was outspoken about his unhappiness, and last summer, he demanded to be traded.

"His biggest fights, his biggest obstacles were the fans," White Sox manager Jerry Manuel said. "It was probably a difficult thing over the years for him to perform in front of a hostile crowd."

No, it wasn't, Navarro said.

"Really, honestly, I didn't have any problems in Chicago," he said. "I just didn't have a good season."

Navarro was traded in January to the Brewers, his first major league team. He had some of the best seasons in his career in Milwaukee, and he's optimistic good things will happen there again.

"Maybe it's going to be the boost that I need to be the Jaime Navarro I used to be. Those guys," he said, referring to the White Sox, "I wish them well."

Notes: Brewers OF Brad Tyler homered, his first of the spring. ... It was the second straight extra-innings tie for Chicago. The White Sox and Arizona Diamondbacks played to a 10-inning, 11-11 tie Saturday night. ... White Sox C Brook Fordyce, who broke his left foot during an intrasquad game Feb. 29, will be re-evaluted March 29. If there's been enough bone growth, the cast will be removed permanently. If not, he will be fitted with another cast.
