PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) _ Al Martin shrugged off the controversy surrounding him and went 2-for-4 with a homer to help the San Diego Padres beat the Seattle Mariners 11-7 on Saturday.

Martin was arrested earlier in the week in a bizarre domestic violence case. He was charged with exchanging punches in a Scottsdale home with Shawn Haggerty-Martin, who says the two were married in Las Vegas in 1998, and that Martin is a bigamist.

Since returning to the club Thursday, Martin is 5-for-10 with a double, homer and a stolen base.

Bret Boone was 3-for-4 with two doubles and a triple and scored three runs for San Diego.

Carlos Hernandez, the subject of trade rumors, was 3-for-3 with a walk, boosting his spring batting average to .576 (19-for-33). Hernandez missed the entire 1999 season with a ruptured left Achilles' tendon.

Because the Padres have highly touted catcher Ben Davis and Hernandez is due $4.75 million over the next two seasons, the club is considering trading him to St. Louis or the New York Yankees.

Seattle starter Aaron Sele allowed seven runs _ six earned _ on nine hits and a walk in five innings.

San Diego starter Buddy Carlyle went three innings and allowed two runs and four hits.

With the game tied at 7 in the seventh inning, Boone tripled with one out off Aaron Scheffer. One out later, Hernandez and David Newhan hit back-to-back doubles.

Right-hander Rodney Myers (1-0) got the win in his Padres debut. San Diego traded rookie outfielder Gary Matthews Jr. on Thursday to get Myers from the Chicago Cubs.

Myers allowed two runs and four hits in two innings. John Mabry was 3-for-4 and scored three runs for Seattle.

Padres right field Tony Gwynn sat out after having his left knee drained of fluid.
