HAINES CITY, Fla. (AP) _ Josh Beckett, Florida's top draft pick last year, pitched two hitless innings and Mendy Lopez hit a three-run homer Monday to lead the Marlins over the Kansas City Royals 6-4.

Beckett, the second pick overall in last year's amateur draft, didn't allow a runner in two innings. It was Beckett's first appearance of the spring.

The Marlins signed Beckett, 19, to a $7 million contract that included a $3,625,000 signing bonus.

An error by Kansas City shortstop Ray Holbert led to a five-run seventh inning for Florida. Holbert misplayed a grounder with the bases loaded, allowing two runners to score. Lopez then followed with his first home run of the spring.

Carlos Beltran singled twice and drove in two runs for the Royals. Beltran has five RBIs in Kansas City's four games, all losses.

Mike Sweeney hit his first homer of the spring in the eighth off Claudio Vargas.

Kansas City starter Jose Rosado allowed three hits in three shutout innings.
