CHICAGO (AP) _ The Chicago White Sox and Minnesota Twins ended disappointing seasons with a 1-1 rain-shortened tie on Sunday.

The game was called after 6 1-2 innings because of rain. The umpires waited 35 minutes before they called the game.

Paul Konerko hit an RBI double in the first inning for Chicago, and Minnesota tied it on Torii Hunter's RBI double in the seventh.

The Twins entered the game with an eight-game losing streak, while the White Sox had won four in a row.

With one out in the first, Liu Rodriguez doubled off Chicago starter Eric Milton and scored one out later on Konerko's double. Konerko went 1-for-3 and ended the season on a tear, with a .320 average and 55 RBI over his last 83 games.

Hunter doubled to lead off the third and advanced on a flyout, but was thrown out at the plate by first baseman Carlos Lee trying to score on Jacque Jones' groundout to short.

The Twins then tied the game at 1 with two out in the seventh when Doug Mientkiewicz singled off Sean Lowe and scored on Hunter's second double.

Tanyon Sturtze, making his first major league start since Aug. 18, 1997, and sixth of his career, gave up four hits and walked two over six innings. Sturtze spent the entire season at Triple-A Charlotte.

Milton gave up one run and four hits over six innings and did not earn a decision in his fourth straight start since no-hitting Anaheim Sept. 11.

Notes: Umpire Durwood Merrill called his last regular season game Sunday, ending a 24-year career. Merrill, 61, who was behind the plate, will work the AL playoffs. His crew presented him with a pair of dark denim overalls embroidered in red with "Retired American League Umpire 33." Said Merrill: "When you work on Monday and still feel it on Saturday, I think your body is trying to tell you something." ... The start of the game was delayed 44 minutes by rain. ... The White Sox have finished second in the AL Central four consecutive seasons.
